A bit disappointed to see that the only nomination for Gone Girl is Rosamund Pike (it's well deserved, I hope she wins), I really loved that movie. Most of the movies are not released in France yet so I'll have to wait to have an opinion. I loved Whiplash and GBH though

Meh, I couldn't care less about all those movies and most of the actors. Some awards are also quite beyond my interest (makeup and hairstyling for example).
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

Only seen three of the movies in the OP so far, all are located in best visuals. I haven't watched an awards show since the early 90s, but there doesn't seem to be much diversity of films between the categories. Is that common for this kind of show-ceremony-thing, or was 2014 a bad year?

Surprised to see Nightcrawler get almost nothing.

Birdman better win best picture though. And Whiplash better win best editing!

It's a trend in the recent years. I think it's mostly the result of the big studios shifting their focus to franchise and sequels which limits the amount of good movies they produce. And since the Oscars are made by and for the big studios, you get less diversity.

I'm surprised Gone girl has not been nominated in best film but Sniper and GBH were, not that it's going to matter since Boyhood is super favorite to win.
Also incredibly surprised that Gyllenhaal didn't get nominated.

I think Boyhood and Julian Moore are super favorite, maybe Keaton in best actor.

Because it has "American" in it. It's a good movie, but no way it deserves a nomination.

I agree that Jake Gyllenhaal got snubbed. The man is a great actor, and his performance in Nightcrawler is a testament to that. The guy was a completely different man in that film from losing a lot of weight, awkward mannerisms, having that creepy wide eyed stare, and just straight up being a sociopath. And oh look, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore being nominated just cuz. No surprise there.

Yeah, what a fucking joke. Nightcrawler didn't get nominated but American Sniper did and Jake Gyllenhaal not nominated either... WTF?!

Although Boyhood was a pretty good movie and one of a kind in its own right but i feel like it's going to win the best picture just because it took 12+ years to make and people will feel like they have some sort of obligation to vote for it.

I am disappointed with the nominations this year for sure. I am also shocked like most, that Jake got snubbed. He acted WAY better then Steve Carrel. Also, no best supporting actor for Brolin in Inherent Vice? His character literally is the best thing about that movie.

Oh well, I enjoyed Birdman a lot so I hope it takes this years Oscars for pretty much everything. It's such a good movie.

Has anyone seen Stephen Hawking film yet? Really looks gripping from trailers but i haven't come round to see it yet? I really am interesting in him and watch all his documentaries. Just wonder if it is a bit to holywood or not.

holy shit, Gyllenhaal got snub so hard. He was fucking amazing in Nightcrawler. He also had an amazing performance in Enemy. To bad the academy is pretty stupid most of the time.
