I have tried to write Paradise

Do not move
Let the wind speak
that is paradise.

Let the Gods forgive what I
have made
Let those I love try to forgive
what I have made.

Can't top that. The man may've been an asshole but he had an incomparable ear for rhythm.

So people who appreciate poetry: how do I do it? I really enjoy stuff like TS Eliot, but have trouble with the rhythm thing. I might just be rhythmically challenged though, that was a big problem for me when I played violin

I don't really know tbh, I read a poem a couple of times just reading the words and after that I follow the punctuation and think in terms of breaths. I often recite them to myself as well, be it in my head or out loud.

Good call, even some of Poe's prose is poetic (fall of the house of Usher) and was quite inspiring to me.

So I finished Shadows of Self; it was just as expected. A great fun adventure, with all the things you expect from a Sanderson novel. No major surprises tho but enough little things to make it more than interesting for a long time Sanderson fan.

I finally picked up Ken Liu's The Grace of Kings. It seems really promising so far, hopefully it doesn't disappoint as I'd like to see this setting work. Its a strange mix of western and asian influence as far as I can tell.

I'm reading a guy who says the master's profi is part of the value added by the worker that the employer keeps for himself. I just checked again, it's not Karl Marx.
Edit : it's getting worse, he now sounds like David Harvey or Mélenchon raging against the capitalists' plot against workers.

I don't see the problem corum.
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

Well, the problem is that Adam Smith has the same 5 passages quoted over and over by The Economist and the FT and is despised by the left, while Marx is responsible for Staline and whorshipped, and that apparently reading one or the other is overrated, and I mean reading it, not choosing to understand only the passages which confirm your own bias (not that I'm never guilty of that, I do try my best though).
I wonder how many economist read Adam Smith on supply and demand and don't see the difference with their own cute little intersecting curves, or shrug it off without a second thought.

But David Harvey has read Adam Smith and Marx. Many times.

I'm not talking about smart people. I'm talking about media circus, French pseudo intellectual (can we export them ?), random people on the internet, politicians, most "economists" etc

It's because they are more fun to read uh.

I mean if i just want a book with stupid and boring characters i can just talk to people in real life lol. No shortage of boredom.

More fun than whom ? Dont think there's a shortage of non fascist good writers. I think there is a fascination, and it's often for bad reasons. Céline or Rebatet are very good writers, though.

I'm not sure about Céline being a true "fascist writer" after reading D'un château l'autre.

In my opinion he was just a depressed man who was trying too hard to express his disgust (towards jews, n*****, lefties, life in general etc...).

At some point in Bagatelles he even says that his own style is "too jewish" LOL.

Rereading The Trial for the millioneth time. There's something about Kafka that keeps dragging me back to his books, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Does anyone here ever read the Book of the New Sun from Gene Wolfe? I finished it sometime ago and I really liked, although at the end I found a little tiresome and took me more time than normal to finish the 4th book.

What aspect that I totally loved about the books was that the author and the main character never patronize the reader. It is a sci-fi world that never tries to be explicit about the world since the MC doesn't have feel necessity to explains things that any other stories would throw at your face.

It is a really easy recommendation to anyone who likes literature. I'm not really a sci-fi/fantasy reader (usually, I'm not really a reader tbh t.t) but I really liked the story, the prose and the world.

I wrote all this just to ask if anyone can recommend any other book that reassemble this series. Thanks.

I haven't read them, but Book of the Long Sun and Book of the Short Sun (written in the same universe as New Sun) are supposed to be very good. I assume they have the same prose style. Let me know your thoughts if you pick it up. Oh, and Latro in the Mist by Gene Wolfe is very good, but not SF.
