But no, let's just let the splinter faction with our moles deal with possible world ending threats involving alien technology, and an entire elite Hydra operation, then charge in with heavy artillery afterwards. I mean, it's obviously just a way to force Sky out of SHIELD and in with the rest of the Inhumans, but seriously?

but in all seriousness, if you're going to point out these obvious flaws, you could start with the start of s2: they were on the run, hunted by the US A and other forces, and it looked like the whole SHIELD was down to the core team and the three fat brothers. some episodes later they again have a whole agency running w/ equipment and staff. so if that many SHIELD agents were able to go undetected despite soldiers storming bases left and right, why not an entire carrier. plus: don't ever underestimate Admiral Adama!

Well, there was supposed to be like a several month skip in between s1 and s2? So I can accept that Coulson's SHIELD managed to recruit a bigger team and set up base somewhere. I don't even mind that there is an aircraft carrier for the second SHIELD. I don't even mind that there is a second SHIELD. It's more that they're supposed to have somewhat sympathetic causes, despite you know, being absolutely useless except to screw over the main cast. I think I'd actually be happier with the story if the three leaders just went "Lol, kidding, we're just power hungry assholes" from here on.

I don't know. maybe they were doing useful stuff offscreen. I mean they are a secret org after all. maybe they had bigger trouble to stay afloat than coulson because they didn't have access to Fury's secrets. (which may or may not include bazillions of dollars) or maybe they knew they had to get rid of Coulson's SHIELD before they got to work. I mean it's not like they were building up "real SHIELD" for years. (half) a year is sufficient for me to not get too suspicions. maybe they are really evil and just play good guys for mockingbird. or maybe it's just lazy writing. we have to wait i guess.

Remember Victoria Hand's position on Coulson's team in Turn, Turn, Turn? That was the latest opinion of him that SHIELD higher-ups shared before it collapsed. Add to it that they discovered exactly what happened to him when he died and that he went crazy for a time afterwards and they're right to be concerned. The only way they can restart what they see as the "real" SHIELD is if they get Nick Fury's toolbox, and that required subtlety rather than force. The real plot hole is how damned long it took for them to find it.

The real plot hole is how damned long it took for them to find it. Oh, I get the concern over Coulson. Even with viewer perspective the guy's an extreme enabler. But he hasn't done much to justify halving SHIELDs operational power, requiring covert infiltration from day 1, or armed hostile takeover as the first and only option. Only genuine complaint would be about how he handled the Whitehall and Alien City situation...except the second SHIELD twiddling their thumbs during it puts just as much blame on them. So yeah, I mean, not liking Coulson as leader, cool. Going from passive-and-silent to gun-to-the-head in an instant? Quite stupid.

If the source material is riddled with such issues, I have a hard time thinking that we should complain about it in a tv show based on them. Well, the joy of adapting to another media is that you can remove the trash and try to polish what you have. Then again, it's Live Action TV, which isn't exactly a polished medium in the first place. But really, the only reason I'm complaining is because the second half of season 1 and first half of season 2 were actually quite good. And we went from two fairly subtle villains in Ward and Dr. Hyde, plus a decent shadowy leader in Whitehall, and now we've got a group of completely unsubtle supposed "good guys" being really stupid.

Because she showed up to break up the fight @ Raina's sans scars, but showed up to reveal that yes, this is in fact Skye's mom WITH scars when she talked to Cal. The preview for the next episodes shows the one with scars training Skye. So either there was an editor fail or all of the "elders" look exactly like each other and are actually immortal. Also the whole: + Show Spoiler + Simmons & Fitz tricking the fake SHIELD guys Was happy to see + Show Spoiler + Deathlok

Over the whole season, slowly he has been improving, but yeah, now he seems almost normal.

Nice to finally find out what happened to May. It wasn't word for word but it was very similar. And that is not strange, when my wife and me tell a story of the night our kid was born, it is also very similar because we were together when it happened.
