Team Liquid Movie Thread

A movie thread, title says it all. Post trailers, synopsis' of films you think people would like the look of or your just that hyped for. Post a link to a trailer (YouTube) and a little synopsis of the film plot etc would be good.

September 2013 - October 2013 Films

Prisoners - September 20th

When Keller Dover's daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?
Interesting stellar line up of actors in this film, so it has the potential to be a good film, many tipped Jake Gyllenhaal to be the best success of them all.

Prisoners - Trailer

Gravity - Released October 4th

Science fiction film about 2 astronauts who find themselves adrift in space after an accident leaves them floating away....
Doesn't sound that good, but the reviews this has gotten and the stellar line up involved (Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) this has been tipped as a good solid film.

Gravity Trailer

Captain Phillips - Released October 11th

The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
Widely tipped to be an Oscar film, this kicks off the start of Oscar season. Hanks again showing us how good of an actor he is.

Captain Phillips Trailer

The Fifth Estate - Released October 11th

A dramatic thriller based on real events, THE FIFTH ESTATE reveals the quest to expose the deceptions and corruptions of power that turned an Internet upstart into the 21st century's most fiercely debated organization.
The first Internet-maverick profile since The Social Network might create a firestorm stronger than the controversy Zero Dark Thirty used as its marketing campaign. Julian Assange himself denounced an early version of the script, saying its structure was built on a series of lies - though it's hard to know which screenplay he saw, as DreamWorks used to different books as the basis of the filmed story. Don't expect his voice to be silent at any stage unless he wants it to be. Again this is another Oscar contending film, if not for the actors but for the director, even though i think Benedict Cumberbach deserves one

The Fifth Estate Trailer

12 Years a Slave - Released 18th October

In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.
While it won't be an easy watch, Chiwetel Ejiofor finally gets a leading role in a project that should artfully exhibit his range as an actor. Steve McQueen reunites with Fox Searchlight, who distributed his last work, Shame, for another brave outing from the writer/director. This again could be a huge Oscar type film, could be worth a watch if you like this sort of film.

12 Years a Slave Trailer

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa - Released 25th October

86-year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with the most unlikely companion: his 8 year-old grandson, Billy.
Now im adding this in here due to the fact the trailer looks so silly it makes you laugh, i will (might) go and purchase a £10 cinema ticket for this, but only a might...

Jackass: Bad Grandpa Trailer

This is September and October 2013 films, i will update with November and December at a later date
But of course add your own titles below and ill be sure to update as much as i can! As it is getting that time of the year where all the big Oscar hopeful's start to release the big films.
I will update the next films in the thread itself, to keep it a rolling thing just like the what movies you recently watched thread etc.

Pandemona stepping in on all the potential movie threads that have yet to be made. I am not confident Irving Zisman has enough behind it to make a whole film though. I always found those sketches to be the most tired in Jackass movies.

i really hope the fifth estate and gravity turn out well, although my immediate thought on gravity is that the casting was an awful decision. maybe they'll prove me wrong!

also, benedict cumberbatch the flavor of the month?

edit for spelling.

Cumberbatch seems to have a good sense for roles, and balancing fun with more, "theatrical," roles.

he knows who he should and shouldn't play. i think if he keeps his standards up he'll continue to do just fine for himself. i'm curious what type of actor he'll mature into.

Gravity looks interesting, but could easily disappoint.

Riddick
Looking forward to some badass action.

Highly anticipating Captain Phillips, and Riddick is a close second. You're absolutely correct, Mortal: Vin Diesel's a phenomenal actor and wicked-cool dude.

Edit: "Phillips" has two "L"s?... -.-'

November 2013 Films

Ender's Game - November 1st

70 years after a horrific alien war, an unusually gifted child is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion.
Ender Wiggin's initial fate in the hands of Gavin Hood makes us want to question that people who decided to place such a huge responsibility on the shoulders of the guy who directed The Wolverine. Though in the mix there are a couple savvy veteran producer types and one experienced cinematographer, a position where some people can literally call the shots.
Interesting Sci-Fi film with potential here, could be worth a watch!

Enders Trailer

Free Birds - November 1st

Two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history - and get turkey off the holiday menu for good.
Making a movie about talking turkeys on a mission to revise holiday history, with Woody Harrelson in the voice-over booth, is one of the best, most-baked movie ideas we've heard in a while.
Could be a little fun for the family over the holiday period!

Free Birds Trailer

Last Vegas - November 1st

Three sixty-something friends take a break from their day-to-day lives to throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas for their last remaining single pal.
Instantly labelled as "The Geriatric Hangover", the most surprising thing about Jon Turteltaub's latest is to realize that Kevin Kline is officially old.
This has good potential, some great actors in the film and could be a good comedy made here, or it could just be a big rip from The Hangover.

Last Vegas

Thor: The Dark World - November 8th

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
I feel like Thor is the best Marvel achievement to date in that it (a) celebrated its underdog status; (b) found a smart balance between its humor and emotion; and (c) featured the delicious Idris Elba. And I mean Loki is one of the best big-screen villains in popcorn-movie history. So knowing that the sequel reunites the original cast (including Tom Hiddleston), introduces Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed (a dark-elf overlord that has an entwined history with Loki), and places Alan Taylor from "Game of Thrones" in the director's chair, it has all the makings of the first winning Marvel sequel (no apologies to Iron Man 2).
Arguably this film will be the big hit in the Holiday season

Thor: The Dark World Trailer

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - November 22nd

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.
The Hunger Games was the most satisfying franchise-starter in some time; a true measure of its success were the positive reactions from people who had yet to read the novels before seeing the movie. We love that the sequel was filmed in Hawaii, an ideal setting for the beautiful harshness of the Quarter Quell. Cast and crew wise, we're less concerned about any choices made by director Francis Lawrence and more worried about Sam Claflin as the knot-tying/Katniss-wooing Finnick Odair, because he displayed an innate talent for making time stand still in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer

Oldboy - November 29th

Obsessed with vengeance, a man sets out to find out why he was kidnapped and locked up into solitary confinement for 20 years without reason.
Spike Lee spoke freely about how hard it is for him to get film financing at this point in his career, but I think that was a smart dodge by a veteran filmmaker who is a director-for-hire on a remake of a beloved genre film that had trouble holding onto its cast before cameras rolled. But the set cast is fantastic, screenwriter Mark Protosevich is demand, and the studio FilmDistrict does like to take chances with darker-themed material.
This film has alot of attention, but i think all for the wrong reasons, if you have seen the original, you might be tempted to see this, other than that i think this film is going to fall on it's face. A plus side is one of the Olsen Twins is cast in the film.

Haha yeah. I update it monthly :D I thought it be easier instead of random little threads we can see a bigger picture as everyone has different tastes!
This month and next is HUGE month for films, Oscar season really kicks in.
Gravity and Captain Phillips already HUGE films to sweep the awards clean. Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks for best actress and actor respectively are worth bets if anyone likes to ^_^

December 2013 Films

Out of the Furnace - December 6th

When Rodney Baze mysteriously disappears and law enforcement fails to follow through, his older brother, Russell, takes matters into his own hands to find justice.
It's a good time to be Scott Cooper. The Crazy Heart filmmaker seems to have a career in front of him that'll enable him to write and direct his own projects at his own speed, and attract top-tier actors whose choices always range from blockbusters to artier fare. Such a seemingly dark thriller as Furnace will always attract media/online attention, though we're curious to see how this one translates in terms of box-office performance.

Out Of The Furnace Trailer

Inside Llewyn Davis - December 6th

A week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.
Seems like the Coen Bros. might have another mellow, acoustic cultural phenomenon on their hands with their portrait of Greenwich Village circa 1961. We're anticipating multiple Oscar nominations (and a win for its Screenplay?) and a career boost for the talented Oscar Issac that will surpass the one Michael Stuhlbarg received after A Serious Man.

Inside Llewyn Davis Trailer

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - December 13th

The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring.
The best ways in which to sum up my enthusiasm for the second installment of Peter Jackson's prequel trilogy are: I can't wait for Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug ... and ... and ... and I'll be one step closer to taking in the brutal splendor of the Battle of Fives Armies in The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Trailer

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues - December 20th

With the 70s behind him, San Diego's top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy, returns to take New York's first 24-hour news channel by storm.
The most quoted movie of the last decade gets its long-awaited sequel just in time for Christmas. Even though they've become major comedy stars in the years since, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell are all back to reprise their roles as idiotic, misogynistic, but oddly endearing newsmen. Comedy sequels are notoriously disappointing (I'm looking at you, The Hangover Part II), and there's almost no chance it lives up to the original movie's legacy. Milk may have been a bad decision, but I'm optimistic that Anchorman 2 isn't.

The Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues Trailer

American Hustle - December 20th

A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.
In the recent past, David O. Russell's pushy, questionable directing style seemed like a potential career-ender, but he's been on a box-office/Oscar-earning roll, and for his latest project he's mashed together the casts of his two most successful outings (The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook) into a 70s-set true-crime drama with period styling that looks more outrageous than Argo's.

American Hustle Trailer

Saving Mr. Banks - December 20th

Author P. L. Travers reflects on her difficult childhood while meeting with filmmaker Walt Disney during production for the adaptation of her novel, Mary Poppins.
John Lee Hancock follows up The Blind Side with what has to be one of the most bankable releases of the year - a bona fide return to movie stardom for Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. Ditto Emma Thompson and, well, pretty much everyone else in the cast.
Could be another potential Oscar award winning role by Tom Hanks here.

Saving Mr. Banks Trailer

Her - December 20th

A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need.
It's so cool that Warner Bros. is taking a chance on Spike Jonze's offbeat follow-up to Where the Wild Things Are; it's hard to imagine film executives looking up from their tablets in excitement after being pitched a story about a man who falls in love with an operating system. Starring foot-in-mouth specialist Joaquin Phoenix.

Her Trailer

Lone Survivor - December 27th

Based on the failed June 28, 2005 mission "Operation Red Wings". Four members of SEAL Team 10 were tasked with the mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd. Marcus Luttrell was the only member of his team to survive.
One of two Oscar hopefuls for Universal Pictures (the other being Rush) Peter Berg's contemporary wartime picture is apparently one tough sit, with a small team of Navy SEALS ultimately facing down 200-strong Al Qaeda soldiers. Audiences definitely accept Mark Wahlberg in serious-action mode, and this platform release should find momentum throughout the month of January.

Lone Survivor Trailer

The Wolf of Wall Street - December 27th

Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.
We get the feeling that Martin Scorsese will keep working with Leonardo DiCaprio until he helps his leading man secure his first Best Actor Oscar win. Remember how well the contemporary crime genre worked for Scorsese with The Departed, though politics -- widely believed to be his unwillingness to be positioned ahead of his co-stars -- kept DiCaprio out of the Oscar hunt that year. But this is a leading role; the fine supporting cast exists to provide all the necessary context and shading to flesh out this real-life story based on former broker Jordan Belfort's best-selling memoir.
This for me, is a film i am looking forward too, it has all the right ingredients to be a good solid oscar contending film and Leonardo DiCaprio is in it, trying to win more awards.

The Wolf of Wall Street Trailer
This Trailer might be slightly NSFW

Grudge Match - December 27th

A pair of aging boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout -- 30 years after their last match.
Proof that Robert De Niro might just do anything at this stage of his career is he willingness to step into the ring against Sylvester Stallone to satirize the genre that brought both men the most legitimate acclaim of their respective careers. But some noteworthy writers have worked on this script, so hopefully the dialogue and scenarios won't be wasted on the entire cast. Can we hope for a foul-mouthed Kim Basinger?

Grudge Match Trailer

47 Ronin - December 27th

A band of samurai set out to avenge the death and dishonor of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun.
Keanu Reeves playing a samurai is the kind of casting that put us in a curious mood, but there's a larger story to focus on here: Carl Rinsch's first outing as director has sparked rumors and reports of a swollen production budget (somewhere around the $200 million mark) and an unhappy studio (Universal) who pulled an executive takeover in the editing suite. Add in an ever-shifting release date (originally planned for November 2012) and it's easy to see why this project has the biggest question mark hovering over it.

47 Ronin Trailer
