Maor Levi and Bluestone - On Our Own and the Above n Beyond show in Shanghai was pretty good, they played teardrop, punk, breaking 2night, home, formula rossa, rebound, contrast, from the earth, sun moon, on a metroday and finished off with sirens of the sea. was a great night. ripped down their promo posters and ran out of the club with 2 security dudes chasing me haha

Oh no. Gareth trying his hand at a bit of dubstep? I have such a sad face when I first hear that beat hit. The trancey parts certainly have the Emery feel, but mixing dubstep with trance is just no, a BIG no. Sounds to me like trance. Just in the old Gareth Emery's style. He seemed to experiment more with the electro sounds but that's it. The style reminds me "Another You Another Me" though he did more chopping of sounds here. To sum up, I like it. For the most part and meat of the song, yes it's trance, but the beginning is very much electro/dubstep. Another You Another Me doesn't sound as electroish as this one. Also Another You Another Me is the only song I can recall from Gareth that has that sound in it, but my memory is bad and especially bad with anything before 2007. Plus the song was co-produced with Lange, even though Lange is a trance producer mainly as well. Edit: Feel the need to say that Gareth Emery is one of my favorite producers out there. I absolutely love most of his productions. I agree that this sounds more electronic but nothing wrong with it. I personally don't think it sounds that much like dubstep. It sounds electronic but at one point there were quite a few tracks like that. Another example is Marksun and Brian - Neno Itome. And actually, Another You Another Me was so huge when it was released... It is one of my favorite tracks of all time. The drop and then the beat is so damn powerful... Another track by Gareth Emery that sounds electronic especially the drop is: Gareth Emery - This Is That (Five AM). Another huge hit from the past. I think at the beginning of his career he used to experiment with electronic sounds with huge success. These tracks were spinned by all the major DJs. Only later he became more mainstream. I personally really like when producers experiment with sounds. Otherwise, after a couple of years of listening to trance everything mainstream starts to sound boring and generic. I have been listening to trance for 7 years now and I have to say that I don't enjoy it as much as before 2007 when its audience was smaller. To be honest, the most famous DJs nowadays sound quite commercial to me... I absolutely love This Is That and most of the Northern Lights album to begin with. A lot of the songs on that album have similar starts/lead ins. I actually like most of what Gareth has produced probably up until 2010ish and I do agree that experimenting is a good thing, as most trance now a days is pretty generic and boring. Take for example beatports trance top 100, but producers can take experimenting a bit too far, although it's all subjective, as most music is. I myself have been listening to EDM for the most part since 2000-2001. Although I seriously got into the scene around 2007ish. I do agree that trance productions have declined in the last 3-4 years. Although the trance scene has seen that happen before. I'm seriously hoping this whole electro and dubstep phase that's going on, makes trance more underground, which will help improve the quaility of tracks imo.

What I'm looking for is something more melodic and engaging. Could anyone point some more obscure good tracks for me? Cure for the Itch and Session Can someone please recommend me/PM me similar artists/songs please? Something like this with crazy non-repetitive, sometimes unpredictable rhythm/syncopations? I've been looking for quite some time but nothing comes close. Thanks. Don't know if this is Drum and Bass but I've looked through some Drum and bass people in the wikipedia list but nothing comes close to this. Anyone can tell me what genre is this?

Also, could anyone tell me what genres I'm listening to right now since it is really hard for me to classify tracks to specific genres and subgenres. Yeah sorry for not making myself clear, I listen to mainstream electronic artists, such as SHM, Avicii, Skrillex, Justice etc. so those songs and artists I showcased are more obscure compared to them.

Markus Schulz is one of my favorite DJs and I've been following him since I started listening to trance but a lot of his productions recently are subpar. And how come people always like the tracks that he likes? Similar thing happened with Armin van Buuren... Before trance I've been listening to drum and bass. Wish I could find the time though and pay attention more often, as Markus Schulz is still my favorite DJ. I would say in general though that most radio shows aren't that great anymore and most track of the weeks are something the DJ produced or has endorsed, which is just the way it is now with how the listeners vote. I wouldn't say most of his productions are subpar, as I like most of the Dakota album and the Do You Dream album wasn't too bad, although was full of vocals. I would say though Markus is a much better DJ then producer, as I've seen him live at least 7 times, 2 of which were 6 1/2 hour sets this year, and haven't been disappointed once.
