nu-metal is definately not metal enough to be in a metal thread. I mean look at Limp Bizkit and Disturbed...and compare them to Amon Amarth and Deicide. Not the same music at all. Even the "hardcore" bands nowadays (hardcore looking guys playing metal with breakdowns) are way more metal than nu-metal.
I mean Parkway drive and August burns red both have massive roots in hardcore but sound very metal, while having more of a hardcore look. Yeah it's fucking confusing but anways. The music is heavy and has alot of metal influences.
The thing I tend to dislike about metal-core though is the trendyness and the fact that it's nothing but a huge mish-mash. Take some In Flames guitar work here, add in some black metal type vocals over it and follow up with a hardcore breakdown with death metal grunts. Like....wtf? Sure I do like Parkway drive, but they also do this sometimes, but they have too awesome songs so it doesn't matter as much.
Oh and about grind, one could argue that it's almost closer to hardcore/punk than metal. But that also depends on whether it's grindcore or grind in a more death-metal way.

Whoa. Did you just put Lordi above old Bodom?
Old bodom; Something wild, Hatebreeder and Follow the reaper RULES!

God, metal/core etc genres are confusing nowadays
Yeah I totally understand what you are saying but since many were posting bands which I don't consider metal, I thought I could post some grind
Btw, there is no idea at all discussing genres since that discussion will never stop :/ (Even though I think I would agree with you on many points)

I was thinking this too. Especially the Reckoning Day Sonata Arctica.

Haha, well they are perfectly fine within the power/melodic whatever metal camp along with Stratovarius and other bands that some metalheads think are too soft.

I think Disturbed is a perfectly fine band...sure, Disturbed may be going more towards hard rock since Believe and 10,000 Fists (haven't listened to their latest album), but that music really is no less metal than old Sabbath or something when you listen to it aesthetically.
Sure, they're not as heavy as Amon Amarth of Deicide, but we call Dream Theater and Epica metal too. Disturbed is arguably heavier than both.
I don't see why you would consider that as a problem for metalcore, though. Progressive music does that kind of thing all the time, and I don't see that as a problem for them...
Anaal Nathrakh's newest release is the most brutal thing I have heard in a long time, its nice to hear that they're reincorporating their older stuff back into their new sound. Dave's vox are still ripping face.
I like MDM + power metal mostly and im not a fan of black metal but i have to agree that this song is amazingly brutal.
some metal bands i like: sonata arctica - going to see them live soon hopefully! :D
kalmah
dark tranquility
deadlock (their latest album sux tho >_<)
dethklok
dragonforce - saw them live and they werent too good but i still like their music
turisas - saw them live and they were definately awesome
eluveite - TY whoever posted their video here, just downloaded their 1st 2 albums which kick ass

LOL why post something you have no clue about
It's a joke >.>.
I actually enjoy some of Mayhem's music quite a bit. That of it that is music, of course. Some of those early EPs seem to be static noise.
ohhh... i had no idea it was sarcasm since everything up until mayhem was pretty accurate
fyre_dragon, nice clusterfuck. What the fuck man. What is this mess.
i didnt think theyd all come out as videos lol, i just meant to post links O.o on the other hand you could actually watch them instead of complaining about the lack of organization
fyre_dragon I like your taste in music in general. I LOVE Turisas, Moonsorrow, Dark Tranquility but Sonic Syndicate and In Flames are kind of meh. Oh and Luca Turillis first solo album is easily his best
Actually Turisas and Moonsorrow are sick sick sick
