So you respond with a string of prog-rock/bm tracks that do nothing to enhance that point. That makes no sense, yet here I am ten years later and it seems you have finally 'found' the music you were looking for:
It gets better with each listen, but last year's Enslaved album has a few too many sing-song sections to fully take seriously. That song is one of 2 on the album that incorporate trad BM sounds into their aquired King Crimson-esque modern soundscape. They deter fans of the AIC/mainstream crowd, as well as the underground with the grating mainstream-type vocals. It gets better with each listen, and the vocals are tolerated more.
Anyone else into this?
Sorry for the late response but yes. I adore every Enslaved album. I get what you're saying but they've slowly and steadily evolved from raw atmospheric (and epic might I add) black metal towards more prog with each offering. Eld is still my favorite from them, but I loved their latest as well.
And hunts for you metalcore stuff with keyboard thingies in it, Cause the good bands are still bad-ass!
There is Skip the foreplay, who i guess dont take themselves so seriously, some electronic stuff and really generic metalcore furthermore, but fun! (wait for it) + Show Spoiler +

Then Amaranthe, i dunno i was afraid it was like nightwish but its got power! (and a grunter gladly) u should wait untill 1.30 before judging + Show Spoiler +
And i really need to put some amazing metal/deathcore (its on the edge) in here aswell, Shake Well Before + Show Spoiler +
I Noticed HXC when i was scrolling around so here is some aswell, Some random band, In Other Climes, but is fun + Show Spoiler +
And Last but not least, Bleed From Within, Roar, breakdown'ish vibe. + Show Spoiler +
It's weird you care that he likes Heaven Shall Burn. Then you post Marduk. They suck too. Being a big elitist doesnt do much but cause conflict. I could probably be a big asshole about like at least half the bands posted here but it's kind of pointless.
I really dislike gothernburg metalcore which is pretty much all the metalcore that is put out now a days. At least in more mainstream metal media outlets. The gothernburg stuff really strays from the enjoyable parts of hardcore and focuses so much on being melodic. I really enjoy the dissonance of hardcore. Acme really personify it in this album. + Show Spoiler +
I've still been on a sludge kick so Ill post this as well. It's pretty much mainly sludge but with influences of noise here and there so probably not the most accessible stuff but I really enjoyed this album. It's got some great riffs in there and I really enjoy the dissonance at times. + Show Spoiler +
These guys are pretty sick. They've got a really great sound for this album, they're a really young band (only a couple years old) but already sound insanely professional. They're super small-time too, I'm pretty much just waiting for them to blow up.
I love machinehead, but I'm sure plenty people in this thread will call them something along the lines of "pop numetal shit for angsty 13 year olds" because they aren't generic deathmetal or blackmetal.
Opeth is pretty amazing, basically the only band that in any way counts as deathmetal that I can actually listen to more than once every 6 or so months.
U can be lol heaven shall burn and lol metalcore all u want Im no 15 year old kid, im 25 and listen to metal (started with fear factory) 12 years ago but i enjoy the melodic stuff right now.
Thank you Zombie for your defence Too bad u guys dont like metalcore, especially live its really good, not the crowd of only long-haired headbangers standing still but a big party across the whole area! Well u guys might like this underground noise band more then, Hester Prynne!

Yeah, part of the reason I posted that was to see if people would start insulting my preferences too, it was supposed to be a bit ironic. In all honesty I don't like a lot of the music posted in this thread (growling/screaming/insertinhumansoundhere = bleh), but I have some respect for a lot of it, as long as it is well written and hard to play well.
And HooiFork, I don't mean to insult really, I accept that people are into different things, but mocking is just what I do >:D. I'm glad you took it in stride.

You have not heard the right death metal then my friend. Start with Death - The Sound of Perseverance
Not that Opeth aren't amazing....but there are tons of other worthy DM bands out there.

I honestly don't think I'll ever be into death metal, the closest I ever came to liking it was years back when I first discovered anything remotely metal, and I pretty much hated all vocals so they were the lesser evil.
I think I have listened to (parts of) that death album, certainly some of their early works, and still don't like them :/. I really like the instrumental aspects of cynic's early album for example (no idea of the name offhand), but I can't listen to the vocals, so ehh, whatever works works I guess.

DM vocals are an acquired taste. I got into the genre because I loved blast beats, the brutal/awesome riffs, and definitely the solos. After a while the vocals became just another instrument, or just another texture of the overall sound if you will, and at that point you can't even imagine DM without it.
You're thinking of Cynic's first album Focus, which is indeed amazing and I actually agree with you about the vocals on that one. I don't care much for vocoder stuff honestly. A lot of people like Death's earlier work, but I feel they continued to get better and better with each release. Maybe try revisiting Perseverance with an open mind and it might click for you . It's brilliant.

Ever since I heard of the mainstream pop band, Incubus, (Incubus was an early 90s death metal band) I've had a thorn in my side regarding anything someone has released that has already been done/named before. I am elite ,,|,, but I'm not starting any conflict, just stating the obvious ignorance of bands that have no concept of what's going on around them. Don't care what you think of marduk. I like what I like, you like what you like, don't give a shit either way.
Oh! and the real reason why I came here--listen to this with me for the first time::::
That pan thy monium song would actually be really good if they had someone who could sing, or at the very least do screams that aren't deathmetal or blackmetal.

Yeah, but you gotta remember this is '93/94, this was considered avant-garde then; just something I've never heard before, but heard about... if you're into old dm, that is. Someone who could sing? So you're into commercial music? Singing quality is important? So, screams that aren't death/black, like the watered-down screams of modern hardcore/screamcore/screamo/mainstream metal? The songs where they scream and then produce that lullaby singing bullshit, that what you're talking about? The modern, watered-down, domesticated aggro bullshit, right?
