I haven't heard anything by these guys in awhile. Pretty much stopped buying when the metal stopped. This new album (2012) seems to be their holy grail, in terms of the prog leanings they wanted to achieve on past albums. (since their late-30s weakness to everything created being non-metal: ironic weaklings.) Rant: So just stop trying to be metal; You laughed at the drummer on your amazing ELD album being totally into Power Metal, + Show Spoiler +
So you respond with a string of prog-rock/bm tracks that do nothing to enhance that point. That makes no sense, yet here I am ten years later and it seems you have finally 'found' the music you were looking for:
It gets better with each listen, but last year's Enslaved album has a few too many sing-song sections to fully take seriously. That song is one of 2 on the album that incorporate trad BM sounds into their aquired King Crimson-esque modern soundscape. They deter fans of the AIC/mainstream crowd, as well as the underground with the grating mainstream-type vocals. It gets better with each listen, and the vocals are tolerated more.
Here is some doom for you guy. I've been between periods of doom/sludge and hardcore and metalcore lately. Ill probably post some metallic hardcore stuff at some point. Stuff like Starkweather, Catharsis, Citizens Arrest. None of the gothernburg influenced stuff.
Nevermore easily one of the best bands out there IMO, shame they broke up and that their last cd wasn't as good as the rest.
Easily the most talanted band out there, and amazing song, at about 1:48 starts what is IMO one of the most badass heavy riffs, simple, yet so badass and heavy.
I used to be such a big Dream Theater fan and then I got to see them live when I was a little older and it really just kind of put the nail in the coffin for my liking of them.
They weren't terrible or anything but it was that point in which I realized how boring it was to me. And that i'd rather listen to a lot of other stuff. But I was a huge prog head and now Im a huge death, black, doom metal person. Plus Dream Theater was completely upstaged by Zappa plays Zappa. That was some amazingly beautiful music. Dweezil really does his dad's work so well.
But anyway here is some progressive metal that is fucking sexy. Seriously any prog fan that hasnt listened to Dark Quarterer is missing out. As someone who doesnt like progressive metal anymore this album still is amazing. + Show Spoiler +
For those who like/love/have interest in The Black Dahlia Murder
There new album is about to be released, there is the official tease tune
Their drummer and bassist: Shanon Lucas (amazing drummer, really) and Bart Williams left before the release. The overall tone of BDM seems different from before with the new additions, but it is far from bad, and one tune does not say it all.
This band isn't really metal, but grindcore has pretty close ties with heavy metal and I think most metalheads can appreciate grindcore/powerviolence. This band is pure distilled hatred in the form of music.
Their last album is a good contender for album of the year for me.
In other news, the new Suffocation album kicks ass.

SHOW SOME HEADBANGGING
Did not like. That was not what i listen to BDM for. For the record I've enjoyed every album they've made up until now (miasma is my favorite from them).
