Venturing outside of pop music, is anyone else a fan of Boris/Envy/Mono/Ghost/etc.? I'm getting really into experimental j-rock. The japanese post rock scene in particular is amazing and they have some great psychedelic bands too.

1. No K-Pop in here lol. Out of here, I despise J-pop for how they try to throw in random English with horrible pronunciation and timings.

I haven't had a chance to read all 29 pages of this thread yet. I'll make sure to view it in it's entirety on the next free dreary Tuesday evening I have available. But, I want to get a couple things straight about this tread. What counts as J-Pop? Just being in Japanese and released in Japan? BoA is Korean and makes albums in Korea and Japan. So, does all BoA music count as a JPop or only her music in Japanese? And what about BoA's English Album. Would the be classified as Jpop, Kpop or something else?

If you love Perfume check out MEG, Ami Suzuki, Capsule (especially capsule), and Coltemonikha (sp?) Venturing outside of pop music, is anyone else a fan of Boris/Envy/Mono/Ghost/etc.? Do you have any recommendation for songs by any of those bands? I like a lot of Jrock that I have heard, but I'm not as familiar with it as some more mainstream J music. However, I have been listening to Uplift Spice recently. I think they are pretty cool. Anyone here ever listen to them?

Anyone here ever listen to them? Mono are a post-rock group. Post-rock is an instrumental genre that mimics classical music in its execution (songs are typically quite slow with very extreme changes in tempo and volume) and I couldn't suggest you a single song but rather the album "Hymn to the Immortal Wind" Boris are stoner/sludge/noise rock. Good songs are "Pink" "Ibitsu" and "Just Abandoned Myself" Envy are a post-hardcore/experimental screamo band much in the same vein as a group like United Nations. Ghost are psychedelic folk. It's hard to find a youtube link to a good song but anything on the album "snuffbox immanence" is fantastic.

This guy is an awesome guitar player, but it does sound kinda empty; the band being only him and the drummer.

As for BoA's english album... yuck lol (techincally American Music). But you can always talk about how like lets say, how Japanese Songs sound similar to American songs or something.

It's only logical to group artist/band according to the scene that they are more known for. BoA was definately way bigger in Japan than anywhere else so she would be J-Pop.
