Why is EU dota so bad this TI?

I think the top teams in EU play no games, since they just want invites.

Meanwhile China has had that Dota League where all big teams played a huge round robin, etc.

I think it's far more "peaking too early" effect. Newbee, OG & Liquid are all in the same spot in the bracket at the moment. Top 3 @ Manila & Epicenter.

The meta changes away from what you do best, and you're trying to figure out a way to solve a problem that you already have a solution to.

Maybe, though still doesn't explain why the EU teams have been so bad. Alliance, Secret, and Escape as the EU qualifiers have been very underwhelming.

Except Liquid & OG, who was even decent after the post-Shanghai shuffle? There was a lot of tier 2 teams that weren't very consistent. There's a reason why Synderen made TI.

But why is EU so bad?

In the majors, especially after Shanghai, the feeling was the EU if based on merit should have 8-10 slots at the next major lol.

EU isn't bad. this is TI. TI always has its own meta. you adopt or die.

Secret was a train wreck despite SL results.
Alliance was never "back".
Na'Vi got some bad luck.
Escape was bound to finish last with Synderwin.
Liquid kept Heen and lost Blitz as coaches.
OG should've trained instead of going to Summit.

Over-saturation of tournaments for EU teams really hurt them imo, but really if you take away MVP-OG game there aren't really HUGE upsets. (It looks like that will change however).

Yep, never underestimate the PL! She needs to build a damage item, they can still easily win teamfights if she gets a Rapier. They need good vision and get that rapier.

Really should have finished the Manta up and went Rapier instead of Mjollnir.

miracle's itemization is losing this game pretty hard, he needs BKB to manfight PL, and doesn't need linkens or drums at all. SNY mkb mjollnir bkb would be much stronger this game. And an AC as 5th item probably cos ET is a hero in a game called dota

Patches, Meta shifts, personal conflicts and a lot of Chinese teams probably terribly ashamed of how badly Shanghai went.

Plus, everything is prelude to TI and TI operates differently from Weekend tournaments. You have a very different Meta in the Bracket, and it's all about how you adjust. But this is also just game 1. TNC will have to win a second.
