The main loss of going Vanguard first in pub games though is the big loss in ganking/solo-killing ability when you don't have Blink.
Would you say this type of mentality is a good pub mentality in general? Basically that in pubs you want to aim for items with more immediate gratification (ganking, solo-killing) over those that delay their payout (bfury, vangaurds, etc.)? I feel like so many players grab the later-payout items in pubs much to their own detriment. How many of us have lost games because your non-split pushing carry goes for 20 minute battle fury and is then incapable of contributing for the next 20 minutes as the enemy carry rolls your team with just like a yasha + bkb?

Vanguard is the farthest thing possible from a "delayed payout" item.

I mean it doesn't present as immediate opportunities as you'd get with a blink. You're either farming with it or trusting your team to get you into longer fights whereas blinks open up the chance for ganks you might not otherwise have.

Which is a large part of why vg sucks yes.

Vanguard is really good for tower diving. I think one of the main reasons why vanguard is bought is because the roh is needed in lane. If you are taking constant harass for example clockwork, timbersaw, windrunner, lich and the list of annoying offlane heroes could go. Now you basicly have two choices for an item purchasable from the side shop to give you regen. Ring of health or helm of iron will. If it wasnt obvious neither battlefury or linkens fit slardar to well.

You can also buy a Bottle and Bottle-Crow which is actually more appropriate than either in many situations since Slardar needs BOTH HP regen and mana regen.

2 questions about mid:
What heroes beat BS mid? What heroes beat Viper mid?
cheers

bs: most heroes beat bs mid viper: a couple that win the lane pretty easily are lich, tinker, phoenix, silencer, brood, bane, enchant

yeah bs is a pretty strong mid, he just sucks outside of the laning phase compared to popular mids. his thirst is great now since it gives damage, rupture also being pure damage. if bs is lucky enough that someone on the map has less than 50% hp he can just manfight you at lvl 6 onwards
|
If you know you're facing BS mid I feel like you can usually go a little more on +dmg items (stats) than regen (ie a greedy 1 tangos or what you feel comfortable with) and bully him around at level 1. He seems to mostly do well mid if he can get to level 3 in good shape to allow him sustain with bloodbath.

I've been checking out some of the new Invoker trends to see what the pros are doing right now with him, and I've been seeing some players favoring an early necro3 over a Eul's or a Scythe. I've always understood QWex Invoker as more of a utility hero, which I feel would lead into Eul's/Scythe; I was surprised to see the favoring necro3, which I see as a strong push/DPS item. Does the necro 3 add more utility than what I understand, or is the new QWex Invoker focused less on utility now?

But people mainly go for scythe when they go utilityvoker.

Disagree.
Invokers go necro when their team needs a necro (or just when they need a rat). QW invoker is actually a really solid rat with necro since they can't TP respond at all (one tp respond u just kill with coldsnap, 2 or more responses = tornado and ghostwalk out at 522 ms).

What's a good build for Sniper mid these days? I figure your main purpose is to Assassinate people and then drop towers with Shrapnel so I'm thinking potentially both Arcane + Bottle. Next item, not so sure.
|
Assuming you are mid sniper, bottle is more than enough to cover your mana needs (potentially with tread swapping if you still need a bit more mana). Arcanes are awful. If you aren't mid, then bottle is worse and you may want to look at a ring of basilius to offset your mana useage.
At his core, sniper is still a carry (agi hero with 2 abilities that solely function with his right-click) so you want to be building carry items.
Treads vs phase is up to the player, with of course BoT's eventually being a nice upgrade.
Sniper can sometimes skip bkb but realistically most teams will have a way to close the distance and hit you with spells, at which point you need a bkb just like any other carry.
So basically just buy carry items. Midas is nice if you can get it early enough. Crits/deso/maelstrom/manta/butterfly/mkb are all reasonable damage items.

If you're ganking a lot I don't see how just a Bottle is going to cover you, though. Assassinate has a really low cooldown. Maybe Soul Ring?

Don't be "ganking" a lot. You are really low mobility with no disable. Sure your ult does damage but realistically you won't be using it that much. Farm, push towers when you are unoppposed, farm more, become a carry.
Besides, if you actually gank ur getting runes i'd assume and that means bottle's got ur back.

Has possibly been asked already, but does aa's chilling touch reduce attack speed by 15% after ias is calculated in or is it like a -15 ias (like offset by 15 agility) item?
