1. Laner or jungler in lowlevel 2-1-2 pubs? 2. Why do people fit him with TQ boots? Is it only for the cheap 4 armour because 13s+alot of seconds wasted seems painfull. 3. Why vangaurd when u already have the massive heal from tq-boots? U could also buy the HP booster without the ring and rush into a bigger item 875 gold earlier. 4. Why do most max battlehunger first and not the combo Q+E? 5. Does the psychical damage from counter helix interacts with lifesteal, AC and the minibash + truestrike from mkb for lategame (a counterattack is still an attack)? 6. What is a good itembuild for axe? (bonus brainstormquestion : For a moment I am assuming that Q+E skillbuild is great and if so, i would want to try a laning axe : Stout, Wand, Naked boots, HP booster, blademail, blinkdagger, AC, Hot, Aghs or MKB, BoT. is this pinky or brain talking?) thx.

make sure you use hunger when there arnt any creeps at low hp for the target to lh or deny. nothing sucks harder then using up 1/3 of your mana pool only to have them last hit a creep .5 seconds later. tranqs was a good choice before the nerf, I dont really know how good it is now. The movespeed and the armor are actually really nice but the reason it was bought before is to keep you at full hp while jungling, and that doesnt work anymore of course. Vanguard is actually legit on axe sometimes since you want cheap items that give you survivability. oftentimes blink rush will be more appropriate tho A lot of people like to max battle hunger first (myself included) because it is actually a shitload of damage, and if you choose to level it last the damage will be useless (the movespeed with the slow is still super useful tho). I like to level call last if I can get away with it, if your up against a lot of hard to catch heroes it might not be a good idea to max hunger before call. helix doesnt proc any of that stuff as far as I know. dont waste your money on damage items like mkb. You arnt an autoattacker and if you are playing a game where you HAVE to be your teams big damage auto attacker then youv pretty much already lost. when I play axe I generally look at the game and decide if Im vanguard rushing or blink rushing. If my team has lots of good engagement abilities that will allow you to get up close without blink, then you can vanguard rush and be a tanky bitch, but if not then you pretty much need the blink or you wont be able to do anything.

Tranquils are only good boots for Axe before BoT change at 5-6 slots. Armor and basic regeneration are op for him, you don't need threads or phase boots on him. As my friends told me 5,5 years ago when i started playing dota - vanguard is cheap heart of tarrasque. Never underestimate this item, it tends to be gamebreaking. Main idea like i said before - tanking so if you're getting Tranquils/Vanguard/Blade Mail/Dagger at 25 minutes, noone will stomp you and if you got some support from back, it's game in the back. Something about skillbuilds now. I see more and more Axes with kinda like 1-3-1 build in jungle or even 0-4-4 and they tend to feed so i will say what i really think. If you're playing Axe in forest, go for 2 points in taunt before 10 level. W isn't very reliable source of damage, and maxing E is amazing if RNGods love you. Also, your strength is tanking, no need in chasing kills while your team is getting fucked. If you're playing lane Axe against team of ranged squishies and not gonna force dagger as first buy even before Vanguard, you can actually go for 0-4-4 build just to bully laners. But get early basilius and opt for force staff as well instead of dagger, like Ursa does sometimes. Helix isn't kind of autoattack, as you know, LC's counterattack doesn't proc anything except basic lifesteal for this ability. Optimal itembuild is - TQ/Vanguard/BladeMail/Dagger/HeartofTarrasque/Shiva'sGuard, also Force Staff is good instead of dagger sometimes, Cuirass can be built as well and BoTs ofc, if game is long and boring. Even Aghanim seems legit now if you want to be a dunklord/LeBronAxe. Damage items are useless on him as well as almost every orb effect. Can get Necrobook sometimes i guess just because it's so op now, also saw some Axes going for Manta Style/BKB/Linken's Sphere. And Pipe of Insight ofc, if you're playing against hardcore magic damage sources. Good luck! :3)

They have totally different functions in game except 2 things - they're both melee and from Draenor.

![]() To summarize all posts into 3 sentences : Some exotic items are not what axe wants and the jungle likes axe less since 6.79. All of u use movementspeed, armour, HP, HPregen, blinkitems and not real damage-items in your builds. U all do alot of different items on axe, but it will allways benefit the 5 categories stated above. This means i have some wiggleroom to try out all the suggested itemscombo's. Skillbuilds are also somewhat diverse but i have read that most of u try to get W+E max faster then Q, that will do for now in combination with the itemchoices i have read. But there is 1 thing i still dont understand fully yet and its the counterhelix part (most important part). Counterhelix has a 17% chance to deal axe his rightclick damageoutput to all enemies nearby. This should mean that any damage (i.e. phaseboots) or strengthstats (i.e. sange) that axe has, increases the damage output of counterhelix and his rightclickdamage, right? If i am correct, counterhelix and axe in general could really benefit from damage and str items within a counterhelix build?

Also, your strength is tanking, no need in chasing kills while your team is getting fucked. Since 6.73, 1-3-1 has been the go-to build out of the jungle simply because it maximizes your gank effectiveness. It's not even close. 0.5s of Taunt duration simply doesn't compare to the high damage of Battle Hunger in early ganks. Sure they can try to kill a creep, but rank 1-3 nukes can rarely insta-kill creeps, which means that if you pick your gank timing properly, that shouldn't be an option. You should time your 4th rank of Call to line up with your Blink Dagger timing. Before Blink, the overall effectiveness of Call is simply not high enough to be worth it because you will not have the ability to position for really good ones. After Blink of course, it is crucial to have that 3s duration on Call. On January 02 2014 06:23 Nightmarjoo wrote: Axe is situationally a good mid hero (vs melee mids). I dunno if vanguard is useful or not, but I think the most impactful items on him are Mek, Manaboots, and Blink. After that just build whatever utility your team needs. Vlads is decent, Shiva's is great, Drum is probably ok, Hex is good, and Necro is good. Blademail, Aghs, and Heart are good for Axe, but are selfish items that won't help the team much. Of those Blademail is probably the most useful. I think Heart is kind of useless unless you are the team. With the rape of tranquil boots it seems useless to try to jungle Axe. Agha is way worse now that a successful ulti refreshes CD anyway--so the 6s CD is only realy good for ulting creeps to give your team the MS buff. Not sure what you mean. Really, it does't matter all that much what you buy on Axe. His personal effectiveness is driven largely by having Blink Dagger and a mana item so he can cast his spells (Mana Boots, Aghanim, Bloodstone, Shiva, Sheep, Necrobook, etc. are all good options here), everything else is just buying what the team needs and whatever he needs to stay alive. It does a fixed amount of Physical damage (100/135/170/205). His right-click damage has no relation to Counter Helix whatsoever.

![]() The dotabuff description didnt say it had fixed damage output. So i assumed it was rightclickdamage. Thx, i understand all the itemschoices now. Your post certainly filled any gaps if there were some left ![]()

Imo, maxing W is just total waste in forest. Every game which i've seen, seems like people think that they're playing HoN and abusing W on creeps. Because of it they're buying bottle as well and abuse it. And also there's no difference in slow/bonus speed on W, so it's same situation, for example with not maxing Spectre's dagger, Sven's warcry or Leoric's stun.

Can be played in trilane, a strong dual-laner paired with a good nuker/stunner (so CW can easily drop his stomp), he can even be played as an offlaner. But, personally I don't think he can farm well in the jungle as well as the other common jungler.

I noticed people go 5 man every game so early. Ofc without a proper push lineup. Strange thing is, my solo games most of the time there are 2 stacks. I wonder if this is a new trend or did I realize recently?

My two questions: 1) QoP vs Skywrath mid. How the fuck do I lane vs Skywrath? he just bullied me out of lane with his 70mana, 100% hit bullshit spell. I didn't die but I pretty much lost the lane. 2) Armlet OD - am I crazy for thinking this'd be good? armor, attack speed, regen, sounds like stuff OD needs

you have to rely on getting good runes / ganking other lanes, supports rotating to gank your own lane

Good news is that once laning phase is over, you'll be a much bigger asset to your team that skywrath is. Skywrath is good at winning lanes and dishing out stupid amounts of dmg in ganks, but he lacks in teamfights. Qop is good at both ganks and teamfights. So losing the lane in terms of cs isn't that bad of a thing as long as its not completely out of hand and you don't die.
