I'm concerned that if I place a sentry too far on the opponent's side then it will be too easy to de-ward. If you know you can kill him with the vision, or harrass him easily then yes. Ideally the supports will get it for you. Putting it on in the middle of the river is enough to see up both ramps, so thats a decent spot. If you feel you are going to be getting pushed more then put it under your ramp. If you have kill potential then put it more towards his side so that you can chase. Another option if youre a hero like qop who can burst him down in 1 combo, is to just get a dust.

Ideally you would want to kill him with dust but zone him with sentries.

For instance, with DS/NP/LD/ETC: If I see something like a sven/jakiro/rubick lane, isn't it better to just screw the chance of dieing and jungle? How can I better make that call and when should I realize that I just need to play smarter/safer vs particularly dangerous trilanes, rather than screwing off into jungle? I'm trying to improve at that role. I find in pubs I usually make it through the laning phase with ease, but when I go to team matchmaking the trilanes prove to be far more dangerous.

Obviously some offlane heroes have no choice but to try to get XP from the lane (many of these are invis-based offlaners) and if you spot detection sometimes your only option is to laneswap and/or roam (or just be a sneaky mofo). Really its mostly practice to see what you can live against. If you can live in the offlane you should probably be there.

However, nothing I try works from the rune spots. In the navi video, they say it does not work from midlane, but it will work from high ground. Can someone explain this (probably by verifying that clockwerk rockets do not count as units if cast from low ground).

If soulring is bad are there any alternatives to complement mana boots? Eg basi, urn etc... Soulring on ES is really powerful if picked early (random gold for exemple) because it allows so many fissures. If you can't get it early I'd suggest skipping it, but honestly, the main problem with ES in pubs imo is to convinced the others to let you farm that dagger after the end of laning phase (ie they buy wards for some minutes and let you some farm) and anything that delay this is not a really good idea. Wand and mana boots is enough in my experience. If this is not the case anything which helps your team like urn, medalion, basi (into vlad later) or casual sobi. Can someone explain this (probably by verifying that clockwerk rockets do not count as units if cast from low ground). That's because of a small bug in the Dota 2 engine. They count as units from low ground as well but they count as units on a different vertical level and that's why they don't block a camp that is technically "above them" in elevation.

You can go Quas-Exort, but you might have to go Quas level 1 (most people are greedy and like to get Exort level 1) because it's a lot easier to survive his level 2 and 3 kill attempts if you have Cold Snap.

Like I understand only melee heros get the lifesteal, but to me thats the small part of the item, the 5 armor aura and the 15% damage are the big points.
