Believe it's random, though if you're playing in a stack, the whole stack counts as 1 player when it comes to captain chance. (Ie. if you're playing in a 4 stack with 1 random, your stack's leader has a 50% chance of being captain, the random has 50% chance).

I've just counted... I've played 17 CM games solo now and i've been captain 12 times. I know its a small sample size but this can't be completely random.

If there were stacks in the games that you played (not terribly unlikely unless you are absolutely sure you had Solo Queue checked), then it is not inconceivable for you to have been captain that many times. Unlikely sure, but not impossible. I'd call it lucky coincidence

Yeah I love to partner centaur as Tusk. Guaranteed kills in lane rofl. Tusk's favourite partners are Techie/Centaur/Slardar/Tiny most funny lanes ever.

Now I have something new to ruin people's lives with when we play DotA 1 friday afternoons after work.

I know someone who only plays Techies. A guy whose fave hero is Tiny. A guy who I've seen play an okay centaur and a guy who likes Slardar a lot.

brb learning Tusk.

Its what you get if you abandon a game (leave before its over), or get reported enough times.

When you're in low priority, you will be placed last in line, and usually only against others in low priority. This means long wait time (could easily be 15 minutes for each game). And you have to play with the type of people who usually ends up in low prio to begin with (douchebags, leavers, generally shitty people). Unless you're in a 5stack (you + 4 of your friends in group together), you're going to have incredibly shitty games, and might as well not bother until you can play in normal queue again

That sounds like usual MM to me. And honestly, apart from more leaving and a bit more flaming, I've never noticed a lot of difference.

Question : does anyone know why they changed the order of attributes from S-A-I to S-I-A on power treads ? Even after a few hundred games of dota 2 it still gets me sometimes. Does that change also exist in dota 1 ? Thanks.
If you seek well, you shall find.

It was always strength intelligence agility in dota. The only place it was S A I was in HoN.

How to see your MMR?

Also where to look for Low prio and high prio?

I can only see low prio if some friend abandoned his games or DCed and some punishment of 1-4 days low prio and high prio if some person did not accept the game right away.

MMR is hidden, so there is no way to see it in client. There may be some top secret way to finding it, but I have not eard about it.

You can't look for low prio cue, Dota 2 will just put you in it if you abandon or DC to often.

1. You can't see your MMR. This is one of the biggest gripes I have about this game. Its incredibly hard to see how you're doing. There are a couple of roundabout ways to do it though. One is to see how many of your games end up in Normal, High and Very High (you can do this by clicking on "watch recent games", type in your nick, and filter through "normal, high, or very high"). Another way is to see how many pages from the first your game is while playing it when going to "watch live games". This really only works if you're close to first page on most of your games though. The last way is to type in your steamid in http://pubstats.me, and you can see more detailed how, where, and who you lose/win games with...I just really wish there was some kind of point system I could see myself climbing through.

2. You're always in normal priority queue unless you've abandoned or gotten reported one time too many. Then you'll be met with big red letters saying "You are in low priority until ####", where # is the time remaining until you get back to normal.

3. Yes. You also get a few seconds of low prio if you don't accept a game. This is quickly over, and should be waited out instead of actually queuing in it.

Nonono. You don't get low prio for that you just can't queue. And he is misunderstanding "high priority". What he means is that message you get
"somebody failed to accept your match. Returning to the queue with high priority"
which doesn't mean anything like what he thinks it means lol.

1. You are correct. I forgot
2. Ah, yes. High priority is basically the same as Normal queue, except you are now in front of it. meaning you will get games faster. This is obviously so you don't have to wait forever once someone decides not to accept a game.

(I tried posting this but I think in the wrong area so I will try here! sorry if its the wrong area as well)
So I'm in high school (17 years old) and do play games a lot, got into starcraft got to diamond league and now I think I'm done. It's just not as fun as it used to be, and the goal of being a progamer in college just doesn't seem attainable in that game. So I play leagues (I know I'm sorry) because all my friends do, so I have Moba xp. and I have about 3 games of DOTA2 played. I watched the finals of Ti3 and was shocked at how fun it was.
So my honest question is if I'm looking to take Dota2 serious, but have a lot to learn where do I even start. I've read some of the beginning tutorials and stuff but it is just such a daunting task starting a whole new game and learning a new meta and what not.
anyone with any tips or really anything just let me know! thanks!

I saw your post in GD. I think there was a bit of confusion there of what you meant by "take Dota2 serious". Do you mean pursue it as a professional career? Or do you simply mean you want to take a serious approach to learning the game?

I remember you post and you got a bunch of good answers in the general discussion. If you are looking to take the game seriously, you need to study up and play every role. All of the roles have skills that are required to make a good team. This isn't SC2 and you can't survive on mechanics alone. You are just one of 5 players and sometimes your job is to jump on the sword so your carry can live to farm another day.

Also, in Dota you need to know how to "play from behind", since some line ups peek at different times. It is one of the harder parts of Dota, to play knowing that you are going to get slapped around for about 15 minutes, only to come back when your carry reaches his full potential.

I don't think you need to make that distinction to help him, atleast not initially. Taking a serious approach to learning the game helps, if you want to become professional.

True, but people did post some answers in GD and there was confusion about the kinds of answers he was looking for. I figured it would just be best to have him clear it up himself.

Whoops my bad, I'm new to posting on TL so i missed the answers on GD. During the school year I want to get a good understanding of them game and maybe find a team. Come summer if I feel I could make it in dota2 I wouldn't mind sinking 30 hours or more a week into it.

He's not a bad support (teams do pick him once in a while) but a lot of other supports offer more in a trilane -- bane for really long duration setup, naga for ensnare on naix, ES for a more reliable version of his stun, rubick/nyx with good stuns and amazing effectiveness with lvl 6, visage for dps in lane, etc. He doesn't really have any outstanding strengths.
