Your basher won't be put on cooldown because of the way damage is calculated. Your attack missing because of evasion is one of the very first things that happens and then everything else is discarded. If you miss then on hit effects like bash and crit are never rolled.

Crits don't always hit. If your attack misses then the crit won't even be rolled.

On those few occasions Viper is played competitively, what is the usual build for him?

That's why MKB doesn't give true strike on buildings, since you can't critical hit buildings. This is only partially true. The reason MKB's true strike crit can't miss it's because MKB's "crit" has the "Never Miss" option checked (this is an option for crit-based abilities in the editor). Every other crit in the game has this option deselected.

Say if vs warlock, get Midas or use OD (dota1) arcane orb.
Midas doesn't work on the Warlock Golem, it's classified as an Ancient.

The one we've seen twice at TI3 has been the Treads->Mek->Agha route, but even that is arguably a product of the way he was drafted.

That does, however, answer my question quite nicely

I'd like to know more about how to use Necronomicon. I very rarely see this item and quite frankly, I think it looks pretty bad on paper because the summons only last 35s with an 80s cooldown. The level 1 minions are pretty weak so I imagine that you need to get level 3 as early as possible for it to be effective. However, the item itself provides little combat stats so it doesn't seem very useful on a carry while being too expensive for a support to get it early. The truesight and the movement speed aura might be useful but can be obtained from much cheaper items.
1. What heroes might consider getting it? 2. What type of enemy team composition is it most effective against? 3. Do the minions have any other utility aside from activate in a team fight and right click?
|
How are you supposed to take advantage of your support pulling for you as a safe lane carry? I don't know what the best thing to do is when there's a full wave at the tower. Am I supposed to run all the way back to the Tier 2 and last hit from there or tank the creeps or what?

They push hard. Any int heroes that need some survivability or any heroes that want to push can get it. The ranged minion can use manaburn, it's a passive for the melee. They can be considered core on beastmaster/furion/lycan.

1. Some of the more popular ones are Beastmaster, Furion, and Queen of Pain. It increases your solo killing ability significantly and is a very strong pushing item due to the endurance aura that the archer provides (along with the raw damage of the summons).
2. Split pushers I guess or just people in pubs who are out of position.
3. The archer has a mana burn ability like nyx that you should cast, but everything else is passive.

1. its seen on heroes who are able to farm it up quickly, because as you say getting it to level three is important. A wide variety of heroes can effectively pick it up but in pubs you will mostly see qops and kotls and other heroes with strong flash farm and little need for direct combat stats. 2. You get it when you want to push hard or when you want a permanent and reliable source of truesight, which the level 3 melee minion gives you. i wouldnt say its particularly good against any composition except maybe lineups with so much aoe that they are likely to kill the melee minion on accident and eat the huge nuke from its death. its just great for any pushing lineup. 3. the truesight you get is really really nice in some scenarios, also the ranged minion has a mana burn active that hurts, but besides that you just right click, their damage is quite high.

Crits are rolled before the hit I'm pretty sure. It's evident when playing a hero like juggernaut with the crit attack if you spam stop, you can tell which hits would be crits without landing any of them.

All attack effects are rolled as the animation starts. The fact that you can see crits like that doesn't show anything about crits being rolled before evade.

You can easily verify this if you like by creating a custom map in the wc3 editor. Give a unit 100% crit and the thing it is attacking 100% evasion (or 100% chance to miss through some other means like drunken haze, it is rolled right after evasion). It will never crit because it is missing every attack.

Is there a list of all the heros that are in dota 1 but not dota 2? I know a couple:
Legion Commander Pit Lord Pheonix Zet Techies
But are there any others I'm still missing?

What is the cheapest item that can reliably be used to disable a Linken's Sphere?

Edit: No, wait, I think the medallion of courage does that too, and it's like half the cost of a force staff.

It's force staff, medallion and urn do not proc the linken's spellblock I believe they used to but it was removed because it made linken's pretty awful. http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Linken's_Sphere

oh I hadn't read that. So medallion does not proc it. But according to that wiki, force staff should, so my initial thought was right.
