When sumail gets more tournament experience under his belt, he's going to be phenomenal. hopefully he's not wasting the tutelage of legends like fear and universe.

When Liquid calls them #6.

Wait what? When in the entire history of the two teams has it made sense to rank C9 over EG? And they thought they should start now, just because EG hasn't played in a month? LOL.

To be fair EG's MLG run between DAC and this event wasn't all that impressive. Of course it was only one tournament and a team can't play their best every single day, but imo there was at least some uncertainty of how exactly EG should be ranked before the event. Naturally it doesn't mean that they should be #6, but just that at least imo it would have been a bit silly to claim that they are clear top2 for example either. After all this current EG lineup has only played 2 LANs really before this (D2L hardly counts), DAC was a success and MLG a bit less so (although it wasn't a disaster either of course).

Also I find that the EG vs c9 comparisons from the past are largely irrelevant, because the large majority of the history between the teams was when both teams had different lineups. Even with the current lineups EG is ahead in accomplishments due to their DAC win, but neither team has played as many LANs or faced each other as many times in those LANs as they did in the end of 2014 so there's not that much data of these teams playing high pressure LAN games.

I'm pretty excited to see Secret vs EG. Secret has been looking strong, but I wouldn't be surprised at all really if EG comes up with a plan to beat them.

MLG where they lost to Empire once (and were even in games)? This somehow makes them much worse than VG who lost to Empire twice slightly afterwards? I just don't follow the logic.

MLG where they also dropped games to MVP Phoenix and NiP in addition to losing to Empire. This was also the old, more established patch, and Empire was playing with a standin. D2CL was a new patch, which at least imo should give more room for surprises. As I have said in different threads, I don't think at all that there was a legit reason to put EG far behind the top, they did win the biggest LAN of 2015 after all. But when you play very few really competitive games in 3 months or so, and the one LAN you do play at doesn't live up to expectations, there is uncertainty of what your exact level is. I mean obviously the question isn't if EG is good as obviously they are, the question is how exactly do they compare to the other 5 good teams in this event. I think any power ranking for this event was going to be a lot based on speculation. Before TI the picture will be much more accurate as each of the top teams are playing at least 3 LANs or so in May-June.

there's an aura around EG since the jimmy days that makes us either think they are #1 or last. it's volatile as fuck.

I mean regardless of how they did it's ridiculous to rank a team that has consistently been the best team in the west for like 12 months as the 6th best team in an 8 team tournament.

I really hope he does a draft analysis vod for the summit. I love hearing his insight into what he's thinking when he drafts. In the future I hope he might even bring a journal with him and write down his thoughts at the time so its even more in depth.

They were 1 game off of being 6th to be fair. People are in an outrage about it but in reality it's impossible to place them unless you have replays of their scrims or have heard first hand accounts of how their training went, especially since they weren't seen on this patch yet.

I probably would have put them into 4th if I did the PR, and I think that would have been about as fair as you could be.
