man props to ppd. Great job on drafting against VG plus those games vs secret.

WP To Team Secret but I'm feeling confident on EG's chances for upcoming tournaments. Still rooting for them to win it all come TI. So nice to have a good NA Team.

Came 2nd but honestly it looked mostly like just being lost in a new patch for some drafts, and how to deal with some of this new shit during games. I think they'll be okay if they grind out the patch a bunch.

They adapted really well throughout the tournament. Also Universe was playing godly mostly.

I think so too. . .

They better be a little more active from now on. . . The rust was pretty evident the first few games.

But ppd does not want to play qualifiers, how will they? Are scrims enough?

I don't know if playing more qualifiers is that big of a deal because even then they would mostly be playing NA teams who aren't close enough to EG in their level to provide good practice. Maybe they could play more international LANs, but then you expose yourself to travel fatigue. Scrimming is problematic for them because NA teams mostly aren't good enough to provide EG "realistic" practice, and most EU teams probably prefer playing on EU servers over playing EG on USE.

For this tournament in particular the patch was pretty new for everyone. Secret, VG and iG of course had one LAN under their belt, LGD had played some online games and c9 played one series against NaVi on this patch. Now everyone has Summit behind them, for EG MLG is a few weeks away and then there's ESL a few weeks after that. The gaps aren't that big. Before TI I assume EG will also try to bootcamp in a place where they can constantly play against EU and CIS teams. Maybe they'll stay in Europe after ESL or maybe they'll go somewhere on the east coast of NA so that they can decently play on EUW.

They scrim against those NA teams anyway. I don't think they really want to scrim against the top tier teams much in the first place.

I mean, it's more of a matter of games in general. Whether they're casted isn't necessary. I think most people are just assuming they've been laid back between MLG and this since they were very open about being laid back between DAC and MLG. You could clearly see some nutty drafts, overconfidence in their odd drafts and underestimation of opponent's odd drafts. Though, I don't know how much there is to read into it.

Grandgrant during that whole Summer's Rift/BSJ thing had said something about telling Sumail not to skip class unless it was for something major. Now some people might have a problem with the source as well as the fact he was drinking and it was during another NADota drama blow up. But for the sake of argument lets assume its correct.

Obviously its good advice since he's kid and it's stupid for him to just ditch class all the time for DotA so I don't hold it against him. But it does limit what the team can participate in. They might not want to be in X tournament because of timing, rules, failure to pay out prize money, etc. Add to that Sumail missing a bunch of school and you rule out pretty much all qualifiers even if PPD didn't want to play them in the first case.

So its basically down to a few big tournaments and scrims. The team is obviously a good team, but they're also limiting potential practice opportunities. Kind of becomes a balancing act with trying to get good quality practice and making sure Sumail's priorities are in order.

I just want to say that I'm pretty big optimist about some western team winning TI this year, with Secret and EG being this good, I'm really looking forward to this years TI. I guess I can count C9 and Empire with them, tho I think the most they can do is knock out some big team from playoffs, don't know if they will have what it takes to win, we'll see in the next few months

I have to admit, i wasn't that optimistic about EGs play at Summit after third day, but they surprised me positively against VG, and they had a good chance of winning against Secret in finals (if they hadn't made those mistake in second game), so I really want to see what strategies will they develop in the upcoming months

I know a lot of people here don't really care about this but as an American used to seeing European and Asian teams dominate the esports scene it's really good to see a NA team consistently at the top.

Here's to EG winning it all at TI5!

Speaking of Smash, is there like an EU community for it? I don't follow the scene much but I was surprised that Armada and Leffen are as good as they are when I dont see as many competitions in Europe.
