Newbee or VG would be the obvious other choices, but they did bounce up and down all year. Of course, winning TI4 should probably count for a lot more. | ||

If we look at just results, where they're eclipsed by VG overall, Newbee in terms of when it matters, and only roughly equal to DK in terms of overall performance in tournaments. On impact on the overall meta EG also loses out to each of the three Chinese teams, which can be clearly seen in the way their playstyle took a sharp turn after TI4 to very closely resemble that of VG/Newbee's TI4 strategies. Even in terms of Drama/Storyline/Personality EG falls short - The rise and fall of DK was probably the story that dominated the first half year, and the second by the current VG. EG is without a doubt the best team in the west of 2014, but to say that they're the team of the year in Dota overall is absolutely ridiculous in anything besides the affection of western fans. Since the JD awards are obviously framed that way, there's nothing wrong with their placement of EG. | ||

It's a year long award though, and EG's really been the only consistently top team throughout the whole year. DK and iG were strong in the first half, VG and Newbee being stronger TI4 and onward. EG, meanwhile, was making it to grand finals the whole year. Granted, I'd still say VG would be the better team, if only because TI4 should count for a lot more. Newbee wasn't really consistent enough in every other tournament, even if they won the big one. | ||
