If they're not willing to let it go against top teams then there is no point in having Zai play it, unless it's first pick. There goes that draft advantage.

EG and PPD know how to play against Io, I specifically remember PPD's lion consistently landing 2 man Impale's on offensive relocates.

You ban Io when you don't want to play against it. It, especially in the 2nd or 3rd phase, is actually a really strong pick, as you need to avoid certain heroes that are just too squishy when a team will just show up on you. (Io + Bristleback has a really high win-rate among the top teams for a reason.) So when there is the possibility, especially in something like Open Qualifiers, it's just a good idea to prevent the problem. It's the same reasoning EG banned Alchemist in any game they didn't take it.

Still, I doubt we'll see it that much. Mostly as it puts ppd on a semi-aggressive support and Zai on a mostly defensive one. They've clearly had Zai playing aggressive 4, but different games & teams will call for different setups.

As for the upcoming Regional Qualifier, any of EG, complexity or DC can beat each other. Who actually comes out on the top of the group is going to be down to Draft/Side selection and who doesn't drop a random game to one of the other teams like FDL. I'd favor EG or DC to take the direct spot out of the group.

Also, sort of weirdly, EG is now really practiced in Bo1s. So at least they're prepared for that.

Give Complexity credit in their first game against EG. They had a well-laid out approach to EG first-picking Dark Seer. Lone Druid-based pushed strats have given EG trouble most of the year, and it was a really well done version.

Still, order was restored. EG back on top of NA Dota.

Was never in doubt after the draft in the 2nd game. Suma1l has dominated every mid opponent in NA as he should i guess, but yesterday he just shut the Medusa down so hard they had no chance, and W33ha well he was made to look like a child on his Invoker, his best hero!

Now onto Nanyang to see how this team does in bo3, that being the only tournament for EG before TI6 is a bit of a concern, due to TI6 is still 4 weeks away. However as long as they go deep in that tournament it should be a good work out i guess. Would have rather they went to BTS and Star Ladder and just stayed in the US though, no one likes Chinese tournaments after all T_T

They'll have enough time to adjust after they get back from Nanyang. (And the fact they accepted an invitation means they were confident the tournament wouldn't be terrible to deal with.) Though the Summit 5 works out kind of useful for EG, as it means they'll have a bunch of quality scrim teams on the West Coast before everyone shows up for TI.

Nanyang should also be a good warmup/situation update for the teams going. It's a tier 1 tournament, but EG/Newbee/Secret are the clear top 3, though there will be another solid Chinese team there.

Do we have any actual information on where Starladder will actually be held? They've had qualifiers, but there's almost no information on it, right now.

Nope, no news on Star Ladder yet just when the tournament will be held. 21st - 24th July. Nanyang is 6th - 10th so there could be an option for EG to play in this one, if they get asked and accept the invite. I hope they do as they would be 2 nice tournaments in July to use as practice more than anything against more than just NA teams they scrim with.

There is a week and a half between SL and the start of TI, so maybe EG will do it. But it concerns me we still don't even know where it's being played.

We know it's on the "West Coast" for Star Ladder but yeah, i just want them to be ready for other styles not just what they encountered in NA. Guess group stage will be nice for them in TI now to get ready for main event bracket, also NanYang should be some nice styles with Newbee and Secret which play the game totally different.

I guess the reason why EG chose SL over Summit is because of the prize pool. I'm thinking they decided 3 tournaments in as many weeks was too much and too close to TI, they they went with the 2 with the highest prize pools.

The Direct Invites for Starladder hasn't gone out yet. We don't know if EG is going, but there is a good reason for Starladder to want them. Whether they go, we don't know yet.

Bet they wish they didn't decline The Summit now, but that is something that can't be predicted. Rejected 3 times.

Surely they have to go to StarLadder now? Even though it is only 2 weeks before TI, it might be bit late in the day to show strats i dont know but surely they going to need some nice practice games, plus you would feel that lan might open up quite a few big teams going to the west coast and staying in the US for the upcoming TI 2 weeks later? Oh well i guess PPD knows more than me and we will find out soon

People are talking about Starladder happening at BTS House anyway. Kind of weird, but, eh, we'll get to see another tournament after The Summit 5. With the other set of top contenders for TI6.
