It is a loot based action game. You fights things and the numbers go up. In Diablo, you punch the devil until he dies and then some sweet items pop out of his body. In Destiny, you shoot a variety of space gods/TimeTravelingAIs/ElderHorrors and then a gun pops out. In Anthem, you shoot monsters created by some elder race planet that can create life and stuff. Or something. And then a part for your robot suit pops out and you get a new arm cannon or mortar.

The only interesting part of Anthem(which has been totally devoid from the marketing until recently) is that your group of people are refugees that escaped the reach of this evil empire by hiding on the elder race planet and using all the wild shit on that planet to keep the evil empire away. And your super robot armor is stolen tech that you used elder race bullshit to make cooler. But everything else they have is kinda lame and workman like, because they are hiding on a hostile nightmare world.

But really the entire plot can be summed up as “Elder Race Tech” justifying some video game ass bullshit and you be Ironman, but maybe also Ninja or Wizard.

I guess I just don't like loot based shooters. Since it's bioware i was kind of expecting rpg elements like tank/dps/healer setups, status effects that need to be cleansed, teamwork that's necessary for more than just burning oversized enemy health pools, etc, etc. At least some basic l4d teamwork mechanics or something.

I don't think loot based shooters have really evolved in any interesting way since borderlands 1

Anthem footage is, I complained about that already I think, too hectic and gunfire blaze heavy for me. Too much flashing and stuff.. I get a headache from just looking at it for too long

It has all those things, from status effects to support and other abilities. I would put it a bit above destiny when it comes to RPG ass shit in their game. It has a lot of combo like powers too. I don't think it is perfect, but its got some stuff and differ roles to play. Their is literally an Ironman wizard robot suit that just drops lighting bolts down on people. And a tank with a taunt ability and big shield.

Now, is the game good, I have no idea. It is coming in super hot, clearly pushed out the door before the end of the quarter to make EA earnings call happy.

Yeah I've been messing around with the wizard. Bought a month of origin premium to try titanfall2 and the new battlefield. Maybe it's just the early missions but everything pretty much feels the same so far. Get to an objective, kill a few waves of baddies, repeat. Maybe I'll wait for reviews to come in before I push through to the midgame.

These loot based games have this problem that they don't open up the interesting mechanics and nuances until way in teh late game or even end game. From Diablo to Destiny, the story mode is kinda dull as rocks because they can't give you any cool stuff because you will out level it. Anthem has all these different guns, abilities and powers that work together, but because you are leveling you never get to see those combos due to burning through equipment. I get that they don't want to overwhelm people, but at some points this is Twilight Princess level of hand holding.

They should just give up the ghost of random loot drops and just give sets of items that work together during the main story missions for people to mess around with. This also goes for Diablo, which keeps so much of its wild shit until the end game.

Edit: Passive, what graphics card are you running Anthem on? I want to see if it works on my PC and was thinking of using a month of EA premire to check it out.

I'm also a bit curious how Anthem will go, but definitely wanna wait it out first. Loot-based shooters really don't interest me to be honest. I got kinda bored of Destiny II and Borderlands II in about 10 hours of gameplay. Pretty happy I didn't have to pay for either of them.

I play these brainless games when I wanna relax, and it's hard to relax for me in a shooter since it's typically made to be fast/light, and I'm bad at aim.
