I might have to look at those. Honestly, I am so reluctant to rely on history videos on youtube because of the nature of youtube. That might be a bit unfair to people putting out high quality work, but the lack of any peer review or even an editorial team makes me reluctant to dive into that subsection of youtube.

Also the risk of being recommended a video on "What Hitler got right" increases by so much once you are in there.

The Great War relies on external sources and constantly says who they're quoting and where they got their information, and recommends books about the war.

Not to mention it has a fairly unique approach to a documentary. Weekly episodes covering respective weeks of the war, giving you a full nearly day to day view of the events unfolding.

I am interested and would like to look into it. Being a recovering history teacher leaves me with no shortage of peers who can tell if me The Great War is using good sourcing and not dipping into historical myth.

When you study history you develop instinctive aversion to relying on the work of amateur historians. Not because they are bad or wrong. But because relying on their work can make you look real foolish during a discussion with professional historians who know which historical theories were disproved or in serious doubt. And that happens in public among your peers, which super sucks and is no fun. That applies less to the 20th century, since that it is better documented than any other era.

theyre a disaster ive went through a bunch of whole java courses went through shitton of small exercises was super good now i was gonna start a bigger project that keeps me practicing but i cant fuckinkg get javafx to run and now ive broken the fucking jdk/jre so much trying to get javafx to work nothing works anymore and i dont know how to fix it so im gonna kill my entire pc on monday and will reinstall everything and hopefully itll work

No, because Java requires their own stuff on every OS. The benefit is that you have the same Java Virtual Machine on every OS when developing and running software. A consistent basis that doesn't change just because you changed the OS is a big upside.
The disadvantage is that you have to go trough the hassle of installing the god awful JavaVM. This process got so much worse since Oracle acquired the project.
Another downside is that you are still writing Java code.

Teddy, what IDE are you using?

There's a bunch of tools to make java easier to program for. Javafx is a huge pain in the ass, but it's still better than swing. Btw, to use javafx you MUST use the JDK, not the JRE. I recommend using Java 10 or 11, btw (11 is a PITA on eclipse). Openjdk exists if you really hate oracle.

At work I use Eclipse and because IBM are idiots/lazy, I'm stuck working with some legacy code from 2006, so I can't make use of the really nice qol tools that most people use like either Spring or Maven. Can't even use intelli-j, stuck on Eclipse.

My impression is that spring tool suite or intell-j are much better for Javafx than Eclipse.

Linux seems to gradually be getting less required for programming, though a bunch of the tools like MSYS2 are just emulating it.

i coded all my projects on java on windows but then again last time i coded java it was Java ME era

i used linux for python/django and php(ok i coded most projects on windows for this one)

I'll also second The Great War - I only watched the first few months or so before I fell off (its on my long to watch list) but everything seemed fair and balanced, and they didn't make too great of claims. They always seemed to be honest when they weren't 100% sure about something.
