Let me drop the knowledge on your to make the game more enjoyable for the first 5 hours that are less than perfect.

- Do not fret about the map for each region. You will fill in the map with all your progress once you get it, so don’t worry.

- After the first two bosses, you will get a dash move. It is good and makes the game less of a pill.
- You will end up in a area filled with fungus. There is a village(filled with enemies) here that has an ability that will make getting around much easier and enjoyable. There is also a boss. Do not fight that boss, it’s very hard that early.(do not fight that boss is a big part of hollow knight, most of them you don’t need to fight)
- You will come to a canyon of fog at another point. Fuck that place. You don’t need to go there yet. Ignore it and try to find a city of tears.

It sounds like you can just wander around however you want, but do you have to kill the bosses in a particular order?

The first two you have to kill in order, since there are abilities that are gated behind them. After that and the ability from the village, the game opens up a lot and you can explore. Which is the goal of the game. Most bosses do not gate abilities behind them(with one more notable exception that isn’t that hard), so there is little reason to force a fight you don’t feel ready for.

Also money doesn't matter. It can buy stuff, but the stuff you can buy in finite.

For all the pageantry that went into Amazon finding their HQ2, it all went up in smoke. They're pulling out of NYC because New Yorkers aren't on board with them. It's like crowning someone the winner, only for them to say they don't want the trophy, which is very awkward.

It didn’t help that the Governor tried to bypass all the local zoning control through state executive power and promised nothing to the people in the area. The subway is imploding in NYC, but they are going to give Amazon 3 billion to move their dumb ass headquarters to a neighborhood that doesn’t need it.

Seriously, when I move some place I need to pay for the land and the right to live there in taxes. Folks are now of the opinion that the wealthiest companies in the US should have to do the same thing. Pay for the privilege to exist in NYC.

You are at the edge of when the game really opens up. You will find the fog zone. I cannot say this enough, fuck that trash pile it isn't someplace you need to go until way later in the game(there is a passage between to regions you can use, but it isn't critical now). Just keep at it and travel down. You will find the ability that will improve your life so much.

Also, you can upgrade your weapon if you find a weapon smith. He lives near the City of Tears. Doing that helps a lot with the bosses going forward and makes the other regions less painful.

I am the biggest Hollow Knight stan, but it can be a super frustrating. And unlike Dark Souls, you can't just rub your face against it until you get enough soul levels. If you need hints but don't want to look stuff up, let me know.

The White Palace is a god damn nightmare and took me a week to get through. And the final, final boss shows up, looks at your fully upgraded, kitted out knight and says "You aint shit". And then you bodied by that god damn thing. But that is all end game stuff.

Edit: I should write a blog about Hollow Knight, it is that good.
