For all the feel-good pamphlets about the three Rs and how your household can put a dent in climate change and pollution, it rarely means anything. Most recycling just gets dumped in the same hole as any other trash, and the biggest polluters are the corporations that make pretty much everything. Good luck avoiding their products.

I think what frustrates me more is for how many years the scientists have been giving the warning signs and screaming at the politicians and industry for change, but it's all waved away with lobbyist money or carefully planned PR campaigns about "listening to both sides" and "you can't trust scientists, they got this thing wrong!". They'll listen to science when it's convenient, not when it threatens their bottom lines.

It may not be apocalyptic, but we're looking at a future where resources are more scarce than ever and countries get into wars over clean water and food, the oceans are lifeless, and refugees from high water levels or lack of drinking water are crowding into cities. If you thought the refugee crisis was bad today, I expect things to get far, far worse in the next 20-30 years.
