I think that it's fair - randomness in MTG isn't easy to produce (there aren't specific rules on how to be random for certain cards: + Show Spoiler +http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=368964&type=card ) but I felt like when you can randomize digitally, you may as well go for it.
Certain things (like card draw being random) I didn't mind, because I got used to that when I started playing MTG.

To be fair, mtg also had cards that you could rip up and shower your opponents board with to destroy all of it if enough of the scraps turned over once.

there's Yugioh (the serious yugioh) where the draws doesn't matter much as long as you get to start the combo of cards you need and everything just comes out of your deck and sideboard into the field
mtg is probably the card with the most board wipes evah (but i haven't played a lot of card games)

I believe that card was from the joke set and wasn't meant fro comp play at all...

Yeah MTG has a lot of those, but I think that MTG was a lot more about spells than creatures in the early stages, while I think that HS is about creature combat.

unhinged and unglued have never been tournament legal
and other dexterity cards like chaos orb are specifically made illegal even in vintage

Oh really, I must be thinking of something else entirely.

MtG also has mostly been about creatures since at least 6-7 years ago. Arguably even since Mirrodin most of the time.

Yeah you're right, but correct me if I'm wrong when I say that at one point, spells were significantly more valuable than creature spells.
e: most of what I know about MTG history comes from Channel Fireball's weekly videos where they talk about the one-creature control decks sometimes.

What the hell this is incredible ahaha

I wish you could do low minion decks in HS. Spell based control decks were my fav in mtg...
What I'm saying is
FUCK YOU BLIZZ

since chaos orb has been banned for so long I don't know that there's a ruling on whether ripping it up is legal lol. Although even an unlimited version runs like $100 now so it's a costly strat
either way it's irrelevant dexterity cards have been banned for ages and unhinged/unglued are silver bordered and not tournament legal

MTG was like that at one point
But then they removed #antifun #burdenofknowledge things like combat stacking and added superior heart based mechanics like miracle

Yeah, spells definitely were better for a long time. Although that's arguably due to how BAD creatures were back then. Even Vintage nowadays sees a slew of decks trying to punch you with bears.

The people playing it literally just went: "Let's take all these awful cards and put them into one pile, but if we're lucky enough and turn over enough of them OP miracles we can't lose due to how cost effective they are." It had 33% winrate over all or something ridiculous like that.
