I'm sure you'll be a smash hit as a standup comedian If aziz ansari can do it i think il be fine.
getting on a stage and making people laugh isnt that hard when you know a simple formula and can take the time to write jokes about your family life or w/e

You can either be a serious comedian who makes semi-deep observations about life which makes you laugh because it's true or a comedian who laughs at fart jokes because farts are funny across all cultures, races, ages and religious affiliations.

I feel this could be applies to every single creative endeavor. Just replace comedy with writing, painting or film making.

the making generalizations that really aren't true at all thing if your job is to make drunk people laugh at 1 am then you better have some crowdpleasing lowbrow jokes. if you want to have the opportunity to play bigger rooms then you need to have some highbrow jokes that a different audience can appreciate.
a lot of the best comedians do exactly that, making a highbrow point by framing it in the context of a low brow joke. chappelle, louis ck, jon stewart, all use dumb jokes as a framing device to make a more interesting political/social point.
It's how chappelle can talk very seriously about race relations to a mixed race audience and still keep the atmosphere light.

You surely will never make any money making artsy movies like Birdman...
Everyone knows that its easier to make simple minded stuff for the general audiance. the exageration is saying artsy stuff never makes money in creative media.
it's a harder road in an already difficult enviroment, but just because people like pop doesn't mean you can't make a living in classical music.

I hate overthinking humour

It applies to almost all fields of work. You do some of the more mundane shit to keep the lights on and the riskier stuff to improve/widen your brand or market. Even my firm does it. We make shit on our complex litigation compared to our title/bankruptcy work. But having wins in complex litigation gets you clients because they know you can thrown down if necessary.
