I'm not that well-versed in chinese so I might be wrong, but from what I know, it's an accurate translation of slang. to elaborate: the informal way to call westerners in chinese is either 'yang ren 洋人' or 'lao wai 老外' both of these terms refer specifically to white westerners, be it european or north american the 'lao wai' can also be changed to refer to people of a specific country, the 'wai' just means other or outside. for example, Americans can be referred to as 'lao mei', Indian peple are 'lao yin', English people are referred to as 'lao ying', Chinese people as 'lao zhong' etc etc etc. funny tho, for people of african descent you call them "hei ren" or literally black people. these terms aren't ncessarily racist but just slang. in formal settings, you would refer to all foreigners by the literal translation 'wai guo ren' or something. | ||
