man, I know this is always how it goes but fact that people know about harassment allegations and don't do anything just always bums me out. I feel like you have to take the victim(s) and their feelings about going public into consideration, which can create tricky situations. But yeah, you're right.
That's interesting. I can understand how a well intentioned insider who knows what's going on might be hesitant to blow the whistle if they don't know how the victim feels about publicizing her assault. There are so many incentives for people to stay quiet

Finally a scandal that kick-starts the boulder. Fingers crossed it's irreversible.
Sexism, anti feminism, racism, xenophobic and homophobic behaviour shall be harshly condemned everywhere.

There are so many incentives for people to stay quiet You ought to always seek to support the victim of course, and help in any way you can. But to nudge them towards going forward with allegations (and to support them) can probably be quite tough and problematic in some cases. Tough waters to navigate, and I'm pretty much as clueless as it gets so I'd definitely struggle with it.
I don't know.. I could definitely use some education and training on the matter.

Unlikely to be honest. Police don't really make sexual assault cases a priority sadly, and prosecutors don't like charging those crimes unless there was serious injury or rape involved. The fact that he's already gone through a civil lawsuit tells you that there very probably won't be any criminal charges (at least for that incident) Unless she somehow saved the messages, can't really see this happening. The llama civil lawsuit had nothing to do with sexual harassment. That was more workplace harassment and defamation. It is a longshot, but I think there's a universe in which Grant ends up in prison. An exemplary case of the MeToo: esports edition. Kind of like Weinstein during the first season. Very unlikely. Person would have to be willing to go public and have a messy trial based on things from 6 years ago, with almost no hard evidence. Weinstein had dozens of accusers but there was only enough physical evidence to take him to trial for a few. Based on her account, it is very unlikely any prosecutor would be willing to take it to trial.

Feels like there should be a middle ground where you, whatever, don't work with the person or cut ties with them or something.
I can see how that treads into making the victim talk about something they don't want to go public tho.
|
I have no idea how I would navigate that situation beyond just refusing to work with them... Especially if I didn't have any sort of friendship with the victim that would allow me to talk to them about it.

I think the problem is that when your friend is accused of something, hes gonna tell you its not true and whatnot, plead you not to destroy their career, etc. It's not an easy situation being in the shoes of the person who just learned about something like that.
OD Pixel for example apparently knew about the llama/grant lawsuit, but was told grant won it and that it was just something minor that llama overblown.

I made a thread for the grant and a thread for the general situations

That thread is attracting some true posters

I feel way too lenient with the 1 week ban. As I was reading his post I was thinking, wait, I can't be reading that right? Is he really writing this shit?

Some real intelligent, informed and nuanced opinions in the thread as expected.

I, the duly appointed judge of esports court, hereby sentence grant to a year of hard labor in the Bitcoin mines.
I would like to thank the mods for bringing these criminal allegations to my attention.
You can close the thread now.

He took a swing and missed it then. In my book this doesnt quite make it to satirical. Especially not with the last sentence.
Anyhow, after giving it a second thought I agree with the ban for diverting from the meat of the topic.
Love the TL statements here and in the thread.
