All random is kinda wierd but ive seen all mid games in competitive play before. Is that so ground breaking?
ARAM was only the first game and most people thought the money was taken back because of the teams pulling off the stunt.
MLG announced that they would not give out the prize money before saying that it was because of them planning to split the prize money by agreeing on who would win the finals
on the scandal thing: every match fixing could ruin the scene. Learn something from Broodwar lol... Not even counting this was between 2 top teams in the scene and its the grand final of a big tournament. After MLG, personalities(most out spoken is totalbiscuit) has started to backfiring LoL and put in some good words for DotA2.

They are able to choose what mode they play their finals in, and choose all random all mid? Not sure if I understood you correctly lol.
If i understand correctly the players just randomed in their tournament mode and just went mid with it. That isnt why its a scandal though, they agreed to split the money allegedly. (No one is dumb enough to say they actually agreed to do that)
Edit: after reading the last few pages of the thread, how can they even defend match fixing thats just beyond !@#!@
Well splitting money in a way "whoever wins, we still go 50/50 coz we're good friends" is okish (still shady but i'd accept it) but when they decide who wins beforehand it's worst thing that can happen to a competitive activity. So the latter was the case, right?

^agreed, but still a serious sin imo.
I'm just saying it's not a deadly sin and there's still a chance for the guilty. But influencing the outcome of the game beforehand is something that should be dealt with with extreme prejudice

it is match fixing... on agreeing on who win/lose, you essentially decided the out come of the series. There is an underground betting network for every esports event nowaday and these organization could benefit a lot of things like this. There is even 1 for TI2 too. Godz(AL coach, caster...) was bragging on reddit how he bet 200$ on AL bc they have high return... Irony how Zenith and Navi was on top of the chart LOL....

I'm seeing this opinion so much around this and it boggles the mind how you can think it doesn't kill the legitimacy of the competition when you remove the stakes and essentially agree that whatever the result, it's a draw. Do you seriously think the teams will play the same as they would if it's a million dollars on the line, do you understand so little about the competitive mindset? Do people who hold this opinion just not value legitimate competition as highly as I do, not caring about the context or the motivation of the players?
I'm really trying to understand, what the hell separates competitive gaming tournaments from a Lets Play series on youtube in your mind if deciding without any ifs ands or buts who is the best competitor is this trivial?
It's overblown. Anyone that can do a little deductive thinking can piece it together.+ Show Spoiler +
It seems like the claims of match fixing are based on a misinterpretation of MLG's statement, in which they accuse the teams of "collusion."
-The accusation of match-fixing comes from a one sentence post some mid level employee at riot made on the forums--that's not how Riot would release a statement. -One of the teams has made two videos where they apologize for all picking random and going mid, but deny accusations of match fixing. The other team has not made a statement and did not make a statement a year ago when they were involved in some other drama. -The VP of MLG stated on his twitter feed that the "collusion" was visible to "everyone in the room," which can only mean that by collusion he means the decision to all random all mid, not a decision to fix a match.
it doesnt matter really, RIOT agreed with MLG on their judgement meaning what ever those 2 teams did, it was illegal and they shouldnt have done it. The result has already shown through out people praising dota2 instead and this is good for us, thats all we care but the details.

unless they signed a contract where it stated they wont do that its not illegal, if they did then it is
