Wish Valve would throw more money at competitive DotA.

The International is nice and I am not saying they should host multiple million dollar events, but 1000 dollar for 1st place like in Joindota masters and 6000 for The Defence 2 ain't much.

Not like Valve can't afford to throw out 50000 or even 100000 here and there.

Last post I will get baited by on this issue. But their sponsorships with Ford and Nestle suggest otherwise.
It's like, "Is the Federation's Mobile Suit some kind of monster?"

Well, SC2 got no real competition, Dota 2 got LoL.

Not saying Valve should sponsor everything forever, but they could easily kick start the dota competitive scene.

As it currently is no one or nearly no one can live of Dota, there is plenty that can of LoL, and that is the big factor for the competitive scene.

I'm actually living in a cave, nearly. It can be as big as it wants, I don't care

isn't competitive dota doing perfectly fine without Valve doing more?

1 million dollars during the beta isn't enough? You know the entire prizepool of that event is nearly the entire prizepool of a sc2 year, right? And no, there really aren't that many people who can live off LoL, but a few people make a ton of money off streams because they have a huge fan base.

Not really sure.... The professional teams need to be able to live of it, at least the top teams before it is fine.

Who can currently?
Navi and perhaps a few Chinese teams

Singsing with most or second most viewers and mouz winning a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places can't even come close to live of it.

So, in other words, the top teams should be able to live off it..and the ones that are able to live off it are the top teams.

Dota 2 is quite young, give it some time and even so, not many people in esports can live off it anyway, its no different in SC2.

also Mouz has won 1(?) 1st place, not more then that I think(tiny tournamen too I think) they are mining silvers or bronzes.

Teams that are able to live off of E-Sports as a profession don't do so solely off tournament winnings. That's never been the case. It's sponsorship and salaries that made professional gaming viable (if that's even the right adjective to use) as a profession--and those come from sponsors, not from Valve/Riot/Blizzard.

Valve's priority should be to attract sponsors and attention from people outside the dota community so that it can grow to sustain itself. 50k tournaments here and there help minimally in that regard, but a million dollar tournament will gain the attention of everyone. Supporting the pros with income? How does that gain your game significant attention? It doesn't. They'll still play at a high level and keep competing.

that is pretty crazy... I like it tho, more money to esports.

To clarify. The prize pool is smaller than 25 million, although the full Riot Support (including technological upgrades, paying for flights and accomodation and salaries to teams) will likely reach 25 million or more.

5 ppl per team, let's say 2k per flight, 10k per team, let's say 128 teams.

Then let's say for some retarded reason Riot gives each team 10k for food and hotel.

2.56 mil, then fuck it, let's say a 5 million prize pool. Where is the rest of the money? Lol.

Sure 7,5 mil is a lot, but that is probably not going to happen, and I highly doubt 25 mil will happen. The thought that 'with accomdations it will LIKELY reach 25 mil or more' is quite ridiculous. Now maybe if they rented a private jet for everyone, then limos for everyone and invited everyone that plays League of Legends.

Fuck why did I type this, isn't this the DOTA 2 general?

So apparently getting a venue, setting up hardware and equipment, and flying in tournament staff is free now?

Vilat said on a interview that the earnings from DOTATV will allow him to increase the prizepool or pay team's expenses. So a change for good is already happening.

I don't know if I like people simply throwing money at the scene. We need a healthy and self-sustainable scene, not something that will disappear once people stop throwing money at it.

First thing's first. They need to release the game so people can actually get it when they want it.

Well, I don't claim to be an expert on how to finance a sport.

I agree that it should be self-sustainable, but as we see Riot sponsoring their events and now we got multiple events with big price pools and more people playing LoL than any other esport combined. So clearly they must have done something right with their sponsoring.

Yes, I agree. We should wait for DotA 2 to be released before we can really talk about this.

guys, riot gives the money to a LOT of tournamets over the year. Its not 1 unique tournament that will have 25 million prize pool.

This year (season 2) the season had 5 millions prizepool and the last big tournament will have a very simillar prize as the internation
