The International is nice and I am not saying they should host multiple million dollar events, but 1000 dollar for 1st place like in Joindota masters and 6000 for The Defence 2 ain't much. Not like Valve can't afford to throw out 50000 or even 100000 here and there.

Not saying Valve should sponsor everything forever, but they could easily kick start the dota competitive scene. As it currently is no one or nearly no one can live of Dota, there is plenty that can of LoL, and that is the big factor for the competitive scene.

You know the entire prizepool of that event is nearly the entire prizepool of a sc2 year, right? And no, there really aren't that many people who can live off LoL, but a few people make a ton of money off streams because they have a huge fan base.

The professional teams need to be able to live of it, at least the top teams before it is fine. Who can currently? Navi and perhaps a few Chinese teams Singsing with most or second most viewers and mouz winning a lot of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places can't even come close to live of it.

So, in other words, the top teams should be able to live off it..and the ones that are able to live off it are the top teams.

The prize pool is smaller than 25 million, although the full Riot Support (including technological upgrades, paying for flights and accomodation and salaries to teams) will likely reach 25 million or more. 5 ppl per team, let's say 2k per flight, 10k per team, let's say 128 teams. Then let's say for some retarded reason Riot gives each team 10k for food and hotel. 2.56 mil, then fuck it, let's say a 5 million prize pool. Where is the rest of the money? Lol. Sure 7,5 mil is a lot, but that is probably not going to happen, and I highly doubt 25 mil will happen. The thought that 'with accomdations it will LIKELY reach 25 mil or more' is quite ridiculous. Now maybe if they rented a private jet for everyone, then limos for everyone and invited everyone that plays League of Legends. Fuck why did I type this, isn't this the DOTA 2 general?

So apparently getting a venue, setting up hardware and equipment, and flying in tournament staff is free now?

So a change for good is already happening. I don't know if I like people simply throwing money at the scene. We need a healthy and self-sustainable scene, not something that will disappear once people stop throwing money at it.

I agree that it should be self-sustainable, but as we see Riot sponsoring their events and now we got multiple events with big price pools and more people playing LoL than any other esport combined. So clearly they must have done something right with their sponsoring. On August 15 2012 05:41 Itsmedudeman wrote: First thing's first. They need to release the game so people can actually get it when they want it. Yes, I agree. We should wait for DotA 2 to be released before we can really talk about this.

Its not 1 unique tournament that will have 25 million prize pool. This year (season 2) the season had 5 millions prizepool and the last big tournament will have a very simillar prize as the internation
