What i do also is that i have bound a key (5) to be all other units i control except my hero. Its really useful when play something like lycan/furion etc and you want to quikly move everything but your self in another direction than you. Also this includes the units you get from necro etc.

doesnt work with pl illusion, even if you hotkey only your illu, the real pl will be in TT
But yeah, it works with treants afaik

The control groups work fine with everything but illusions. Replicate after expiring will select the hero of which the replicate was. Like in the middle of fight I suddenly find myself trying to micro the enemy brewmaster O.o

You can set a hotkey to select all other units. I do that with PL/Naga to micro the illusions. It works with everything but BM's hawk as far as summons go (and that's just sensible as you don't generally want the hawk + boar to be grouped together
