There's a slight trend here in Czech Republic with plumbers and other similar professions. When they're done fixing whatever you needed and you ask them how much they want, they just tell you "Eh, just give me whatever you think is fair." And because people don't want to look like assholes they usually overpay them. And if they give them too little money, they just look at you weird and you give them more. I fucking hate that, as their client it just puts you into a shit position no matter what you do.

It's apparently a concept that all people should be given enough money to live just because they exist. It should free people to do whatever they want and apparently society as a whole is supposed to benefit greatly from that, because people who do what they want to do contribute to it more or something. Reddit is all over that stuff, but I don't really get it. Can someone explain? Well, the idea is more that you remove all other Welfare payments. And just give everyone a set amount regardless of what the person has/makes. It generally seen more as way to reduce the complexity of everything and not to give everyone the chance of doing what they want to do
Minimum wage is a way to prevent companies from taking advantage of their workers and assure that people are provided with a level of income be able to contribute to the economy. It’s the concept that if you are not contributing to the economy, you are a drain on it by needing services or taking up civil servant’s time(aka, you are so poor that you turn to crime, forcing the police to deal with you).
The idea is that the more money people as a whole have, the more money they spend, making the economy go faster and so on and so forth. The reverse is that everyone is paid less, the rich keep the extra money in profits(because the money doesn’t disappear) and the cycle continues. Welfare is mostly for folks who are down on their luck or struggling. The abuse levels are quite low, but of course those get the majority of the attention.
I don’t know why reddit cares so much, but these sort of political arguments bring out the finest crazies both sides have to offer.

He was asking about basic income, which basically is giving everyone a set amount of money regardless of their status. Normally enough to remove any other social security payments(welfare may have been the wrong word) and the entire bureaucracy around it. Thats an entirely different thing that minimum wage

In Berlin, we still tip 10%. Ridiculous.

That sounds like a fucking nightmare world that sounds great in theory, but never pans out. I think there is some awesome dystopian short story there somewhere.

15% in the US, but waiters get paid shit, so its fine with me. Still, I would rather just pay more for the meal and not have to do math.

Fighting games are at least as niche as Dark Souls, and there is constant new content as well. There are plenty of examples where a smaller but loyal fanbase is able to support constant development, its really not that simple. The problem was when someone asked "Why aren't all games like Dark Souls?" Nobody said that.
Anyone with an IQ higher than 60 understands why all games aren't Dark Souls, and even someone like myself wouldn't say all games should be a 'Dark Souls'. Variety is fine, it's the proportions that have become out of whack.
The direction in gaming has become an appeal to the lowest common denominator. The game design of, hit your buttons, everyone is a winner, and the proliferation of incredibly easy, incredibly shallow games is what I can't stand about the industry. We can argue over the semantics of certain words like niche, or the subjectivity of 'enjoyment' but it's crystal clear which direction games (on the whole) are going and why.
A lot of otherwise good devs are being shut out from making interesting, engaging video games because the pressure to release 'mass' appeal games is too high to ignore. How can a dev in the current landscape ever hope to raise the funds or get approval from a major publisher to consistently create new IP or interesting, fresh triple A content, when they could just rehash a new CoD and add a plethora of DLC? Because we (the collective gaming community, casual, hardcore and everything in between) have guzzled this model so fervently, we will likely never get a balanced ratio of 'Dark Souls' to 'Tomb Raider'. We've pigeonholed ourselves into the world of candy crushes, call of duties etc., and to me, that sucks ass.

I just play doter and ignore the "industry" of idiots anyway

Games got big and they started making games for everyone. Some are easy, some are hard. Some have difficulty settings. As long as you are getting the game you want to play, who fucking cares what other people are playing? Vote with your wallet and buy the games you want.
Seriously, all I hear is "Back in my day, games were games. They were hard and everyone wasn't a winner, but we were happy with it. Now you kids and your QTE and candy crushes just ruined everything."
And its a weird fucking world when I am calling one of you an old man.

Interesting choice of reference given the whine about watered down modern games.
But yeah, there's a ton of cool stuff out there so long as you don't demand AAA 3d graphics. Just buy that stuff instead.

Generally speaking I've always been an 'insert competitive online game' and I get super hardcore into it and only dabble in other games that might be good on the side. Lately though, there hasn't been much need to dabble on the side. ~_~

Just buy that stuff instead. I love Bioshock prime and Infinite with all my heart, even with their flaws. But I love those super rich worlds that make up for being linear with some real depth to the environments. And the stories are well written. The game play wasn't ground breaking, but it got the job done.
