Like, yeah, it's clearly a favorable trade, it's just stupid. I'd be completely fine with the hero if Spears didn't do so insanely much damage early game. Take away some of their damage, give it something that makes it not completely shit late game, buff his stats or something, and maybe we're onto something. Maybe a much smaller amount of damage, plus a tiny, stacking % damage amplification effect that went through BKB. The worst part is that nothing stops that leap, ever. So if your not right next to a melee carry, he is going to do it and walk away. Sure, in theory a lot of stuff stops is, but nothing in practice. Personally, I like getting Sven against Huskar, or Yolo King. Because nothing says loving like a huge crit right to his face.

Plansix, even when he doesn't walk away, if he's level 7 and has max Spears, you're dead. If you're level 4, because you've been lane supporting and doing some roaming and stuff, you're straight up dead if he jumps you and hits you once or twice. And it's good for you and your team, because he'll probably die first if there are other people around and you'll get experience, but it totally blows as an experience. The only comparable experience is when a hero like SB or Ursa gets a BKB and just decides they have a hard-on for you. And at least the BKB loses charges, and at least it requires some farm to do.

Can you think of another time he's so clearly thrown his hands up in the air and gone "FINE I GIVE UP PLAY HIM HOW YOU WANT" on a hero? Tree has never been anything but a support, no matter how often people've tried to rush Mom/Basher or Battlefury or Radiance or whatever on him. None of the oh-so-popular jungle carries - LD and Lifestealer - have actually gotten better at jungling over time. It's basically unprecedented in Dota for so many people to play a hero so counter to how he should be played that the hero gets changed to accommodate that playstyle. I agree that it's weird. Truth be told, I actually liked pre-remake Huskar a lot better, and I think it was a great pub carry (even though the nature of his strengths made him unsuited to competitive play) that was wrongly seen as too weak due to the vast majority of players playing him incorrectly.

There was some pub player who mained huskar on USE, I ran into him several times and everytime was like "whoops, forgot that guy always did that" because he would do roshan at lycan/ursa level timings and farmed like crazy. (He might have jungled him? This was a looong time ago) I always wondered what he did after huskar got reworked.

But who knows. Maybe he's just one significant int gain buff away from being viable.

Old SB, huskar, riki, bloodseeker etc. Brood was another prime example, and I would consider WK to be the current title-holder. I don't really want any of those heroes to be "viable" without a significant rework.
