Having said that I don't know the playerbase numbers for dota2, at some point it's going to peak etc...if it hasn't already. At this point I'm not expecting it to ever overtake LoL in Korea or China but it probably still has room to grow in these regions.

The people who watch the NBA or MLB don't lose interest in it as there is no 'other' professional basketball league or baseball league here in the states worth watching over those two. Number of games isn't an issue when there is a singular league to focus on. Maybe the people you know aren't too keen on the NBA or MLB, but here in So Cal, if you're a fan of ball then you never 'lose interest' in it.

I've seen a huge number of sports writers say the seasons are too long to keep up with, but by lose interest I mean compared to something like NFL that has way less games. I doubt that many people are watching all 162 baseball games, because each game is just worth less, but it's pretty realistic that someone might watch all the NFL games one season. It's like in dota, people watch the big games but as more tournaments crop up the games where rox.kis are playing fnatic for mouse pads in a tournament run by gdstudio are not as interesting.

I think LANS are the most enjoyable to watch, attract the most viewers and feel like a final as a viewer. So, i hope the DH, MLG and ESL will do more of those without a long online stage.

If you only watch the matches of the team you like and the high profile fixtures it is very manageable IMO. Kind of similar to football (soccer) where you follow your team's matches and watch like Champions League, Word Cup, European Championship etc with some Premier League and La Liga sprinkled in. exactly. i think its dota2s future model, in a way. i dont think itll be like most american professional sports because those never developed from an international perspective, but football/soccer has

Wasn't tobi making some wild announcements for the defense a while ago? Or was he refering to EMS one? Either way I am happy that The Defense is on hiatus.

The Defense, TPL and some other stuff I even already forgot. And TPL got banned. TPL was also growing. In fact the last season of TPL was very good, people didn't like the casters, but they were doing a lot of stuff right and had one of the most interesting formats. TPL would probably be bigger than D2L/D2CL if they were still around.

![]() fruits of reporting everyone also jd said they dont do defense anymore cuz theres just no need for it anymore, it was always to grow the scene and at this point it would only be one in ten, whereas after ti1 it was literally the only thing now they do jdl which is great

If they don't have premier content to broadcast, they would still be running the Defense.

Even if they are trying to make a PR stunt out of it, there is literally no need for it anymore - the comp scene is almost overrun with tournaments that are worth taking part in, so if they decided to not organize 'just another tournament', then it's all rational.

I remember it really well because I almost never watch anything that he does outside of casting, so it kind of stands out in my head.

Would you see a bigger return if there were less tournaments? Yes. But if you wouldn't see a return then there wouldn't be as many tournaments (with as many seasons) as there are currently. So, I still believe that jD had a lot of contracts for things where they aren't fronting all the money. And they are a small staff, so it didn't make sense to do the Defense at that time. If I'm wrong, they would never run their own premier tournament again unless it's something radically different from what's currently out there. And I have no doubts about jD running another Defense or similar tournament in the future, even though "it isn't needed."
