also its searchable with text, which is nice. having all of the sets of items on different shops that you had to click on individually was the most annoying shit ever when your new and trying to find a specific item for a recipe. I would spend like 2-3 minutes trying to find an item where in dota2 a newb can just type in the search bar. | ||

Edit: I also remember the time when items were separated into tier 1 to 4 shops. THAT was much more confusing. | ||

But ultimately there is just so much to learn that you kind of just have to memorize everything. When I say it sucks, I am not implying that the developers fucked up or that it could be done better. Im just saying it sucks. | ||

Dota1s system was obviously shit. Unless you memorised everything(which I certainly didn't), you'd easily spend a full minute in the fountain just looking for things. I'm not sure how the system in dota 2 could have been done better than it is. Its really easy to find most things, and like you said the search bar is readily available and even take words like "sheepstick" should you have forgotten the name of the item itself. The quickbuy menu in dota 2 also really speeds things up, letting you get an item ready when you have time, like walking towards the fountain. | ||

It was something like, 0-2k first shop, 2k-3k second shop, 3k-4k third shop, 4k up fourth shop... I think? Pretty sure BKB was third shop, Scythe fourth shop. And Midas was first shop, along with all the boots. Fun times. DOTA2's system is way better, though, just because of the search bar and quickbuy. The main systems are really no different, because either way you're either a) searching for items by name or seeing them for the first time, so you'll take forever either way or b) looking for an item you already know, so you're just looking for one of the icons in a few small places rather than one big place. | ||

actually when i played dota2 after a 3 year hiatus from dota1 it took me ages to find everything anyhow I don't think the majority of players actually memorize the locations of dota 2 items, they just search the combined item and shiftclick it into quickbuy, unless you already have it on the suggested items page. imo it's worse this way when you need to make quick item decisions tho. | ||
