Vanguard AM was the absolute go-to build for the longuest time though. I still remember the flames the first few times I went for bfury, and then the wows at 25 mins with uber farm cause no one knew how strong it was and didn't try countering it.

I only have very fuzzy memories of my first dota games (I played vs bots, didn't have bnet access).

I remember that I always bought headress first (the only 603 gold item in the game! dat efficiency). I remember that I really liked chen (since I could steal THEIR creeps. Didn't know about the jungle). I also remember trying lina, alch, earthshaker (another personal favourite. 3 stuns!). I remember not knowing where the secret shop was, and then when I found it laughing at the prices ("3.8K gold? obviously this shop is for those who cheat themselves gold!" which I promptly did LOL).

Ah what a great game.

Vlad first is far better than any item when your lane is heavily pressured or supports are retards.

I used to get Vanguard -> Manta -> Battlefury couple of years ago. Shit worked like wonders for me. Then again DLG games were pretty much sub3k if compared to today.

On a Sidenote: Call me retarded, but I feel like WK is on the edge of OP. Combining the Hailrake build with another core in a WK team is freakign insane to play against - even if your team has necrobooks.

Headress first master race. It's cheap, is built easily and gives regen the BEST stat in the game by far, IN AN AOE! I went for it every game every hero every lane xcept if i got first blood or something and then i would rush a perseverance.

I remember way back when, 6.52e era. I loved playing Sand King. I hardly remember what items I got. I just liked Sand King. And hey, I still like Sand King. Badass hero.

And then I read Merlini's guide to Zeus and stomped pubbies with high-damage nukes.

We had Necro-Lycan and Wex Invoker. Wasn't enough against his Blademail+Mjöllnir. Was a fun game anyway, but I was completely thrown off, because of how hard it was to deal with WK with just minimal items + level16.

Damn that proper o with the 2 dots.

I think with lycan u just ignore the WK and kill his buildings lol.

Also with intoker u just crowd control him without necessarily hitting him (ice wall, tornado, deafening blast, whatever) and kill his teammates.

It's only a 90% win rate. You're thinking of the Aegis, which is not an item one can build and therefore logically not relevant to the discussion. I forgive your lack of solid reasoning here, however; not everyone can theorycraft at the highest level, nor can they be expected to.

To expand, Rapier is too expensive to be a first item, which is why I recommend rushing a Gem. It has an 84% win rate: it increases your chances of winning by almost 70%! If you save your starting gold and wait in fountain for passive gold you can have it in the third minute of the game and, while not a certain victory, you have single-handedly done the best thing you can to ensure your team wins. If you lose from then on, it is plainly the fault of Valve for matching you with failures.

84% winrate purchaseable from minute 3? I'm so in. That courier can walk a little while longer.

Well that's what I thought as well until that match. Might be, becaue I'm a trench-player #roadto3k starting from 4k, but they were pretty on point in TPing back and killing Lycan. Soon paper, we had everythign to deal with WK in theory, but IceFrog knows why it didn't work. We're probably just scrubs messing it up tho.

Double Vanguard Axe, way back in DotA. I could never get a straight reply if it stacked or not for the longest time!
