I'm not sure if being the writer TLDota deserves is an insult to us or him. Or both.

Prepare to be disappointed by ticketmaster.

While I anticipate making it home in time for the ticket sales, I've made sure somebody else is responsible for grabbing mine just in case and so that I have somebody to blame if it goes poorly somehow

I'm just hoping the "SOLD OUT" sign shows up right around when i have to leave for work. That's all I care about.

I hope there are fewer invites and more qualifier spots this year. Also, there should be a tier 2 qualifier-for-the-qualifiers that's open to all so that no team can claim to being overlooked.

It kind of sucks that past TI teams have had spots based on subjective selection rather than any concrete competition.

Valve have already laid out that there will be EXACTLY 11 invites, EXACTLY 4 qualifiers, and the final remaining slot is going to be played for in Seattle by the 4 runners up.

Interminable global qualifiers suck ass. Invite the good teams that you want representing your game at a 2+ million dollar tournament, and then go from there.

See the funny thing is the teams from the qualifier have done awfully in all TIs, it's almost like valve know what they're doing when they're inviting teams!

Qualifiers are bs for a number of reasons.

If you think of it this way. The qualifier is just another tournament. Does winning that tournament mean any more than the other tournaments in actually determining skill? Or more specifically, does winning that one tournament mean more than winning 3 other tournaments? Why should it?

On another level, very many Dota teams play well for a couple of weeks, or for a single patch. So you might be the best team in the world the week of that qualifier tournament, but what have they done to prove that they will have a chance the next week? And you also might have the opposite happen, you might be the best team in the world, and you have a bad week.

And on yet another level. The International having a lot of invites makes the other tournaments throughout the year more valuable. Winning MLG, Dreamhack, whatever. Almost guarantees you an invite. Without that, teams won't care as much about proving their worth throughout the year, and it devalues other tournaments.

The qualifiers exist for those teams that haven't done enough to deserve to be there. The ones where it's difficult to say who you should be cutting and who you should be inviting.

I think qualifiers are the shit especially if it's just a best of 1.
the drama and tears are real
Right now there's 12 invite spots right?I'd rather give out just 8 direct invites and send everyone else to the qualifier
but than again im an asshole so what do i know
u gotta farm

The reason is that TI is held once a year. Teams usually change more than once a year, unless they are Na'Vi or Alliance. There's no guarantee that the team that won events X Y and Z prior to TIwhateverthefuck is the same team that won events beforehand. That's not even mentioning the very real possibility that a team that tears it up earlier in the year can completely fly off the handle for unclear reasons. So, then, your invites might not actually be the best teams. That's why TI allows for 5 qualifier-based slots, which are a way for a team who's just coming on the up-and-up to get a chance to prove their worth.

Or, to put it in the bluntest possible terms: it gave LGD.cn a chance to play in TI3 last year, which they definitely deserved based on their performance at the event. Furthermore, it will give Liquid a chance to come back from FLUFF this year, though it's a stretch to say they'll do extremely well. So, now: why shouldn't LGD.cn have gotten the chance to prove themselves that way? Why shouldn't Liquid get the chance this year?

It's also kind of laughable that you think that those other tournaments aren't more than valuable enough on their own merits. Money is money, wins bring fans and sponsors, and the kind of person who will play a game for a living is the kind of person who likes winning for its own sake.
