I'm actually surprised that valve is getting any money at all, their prices are just ridiculous generally, the skins usually make even less of a difference to the characters looks than LoL skins, yet LoL skins are generally way cheaper, and they are made by Riot, not by fans. I'm genuinely wondering. I have a good salary at a fulltime job, yet I can't bring myself to pay these prices for tiny cosmetic items... who are the people actually paying Valve for this stuff? | ||

Cosmetic items, more appropriately called vanity items, are no different than designer clothes. Their worth has absolutely nothing to do with the quality or workmanship which goes into them, they have price points where they can gain a reputation of exclusivity and still sell a high volume of product. It isn't even necessarily the case that the price point is the one which would be most profitable, but there's more to it than that, Arcana items are the big exclusive sets which is what separates them. Generally in these cases people also need to understand that the price point being correct or not (if we assume "correct" being that the entire motive is to just make that single item profitable) depends entirely on statistics which the only people who have is Valve. I don't shop at the fancy clothes stores because their prices are too high, does that mean they're wrong? Of course not, I don't have the data to say that they would sell more at lower prices. They have the data, and they spend more time thinking about their profits than you or I. | ||
