Normal people would just say maximizing an area with fixed perimeter but nope yango has to be jousting with chickens.

What would you guys think of the game automatically randoming heroes for players who didn't pick before the timer hit 0 (in all pick of course)?

That won't let them counter-pick though, which I would assume is the big problem. I hear a lot of people get annoyed that they want to play a certain hero, but they can't pick it because the opponents won't pick until the whole opponent team is done, even if they have to wait until creeps spawn.

Wtf? The way to fence the largest area with a given perimeter is a circle, not a square (or a n-sided regular polygon where n is the number of fencing blocks).
Logic fails because we are lazy.

Dota2 is only 200k behind LoL in total prize money. If you count the ongoing and upcoming tournaments, it should be about to surpass LoL by the end of this month.

Dat growth.

Last time I check, it was about 70% of the prize money, Dota is 80% though, so it's irrelevant.

Why? $8,132,759.92 is the total money, Valve didnt do anything but 3 highly rewarding tournaments (which makes it easy to count). There were about $1.700.000 per tournament, not counting the compendium money because it wasnt from Valve.
So $8.1 - $5.1 = $3.000.000. Which makes more than 1/3rd of the total money.

Ohhhh, sorry I misunderstood. I thought we were talking about the ratio of prize money to non-prize money.

Probably about right.

Well comparing the prizemoney available is a bit of a joke considering one of the bigger draws to being a LoL pro would be the non-prize money you get. Ask teams like Sigma.Int if they want bigger prize pools or simply a salary and I bet a lot of them would tell you "salary".

That said, yes Riot pays out essentially all of league's prize money at this stage which doesn't feel like the ideal model to me

If Compendium money isn't from Valve, then the prize pool should have been higher though. The fact that only 25% of the compendium went to the prize pool make it no more than just a hyped/seasoned item (there's no real difference between compendium and normal dota ticket where 25% of the ticket prize goes into the organizers, and valve keeps 75%).

80% was the number I came up with like last month when I posted the same topic like this though, it should be lower now.

Riot pays LCS teams ~25k/team per season (about 4 months) which essentially to cover the teamhouse and travel since the LCS model is LAN model and requires team to physically present at the studios.

I guess next stop is SC2. With this growth, Dota2 should surpass SC2 by the time TI4 comes.

In general, Valve makes 75% off of everything sold in the dota 2 store. Most items the 25% remaining goes to the content creator or league the ticket is associated with or whatever. For TI3 the remaining 25% went directly to the prize pool. In no way is that valve paying that extra money. So basically 1.6*3 = 4.8 so about 60% of the prizemoney comes from valve.

Yes, and that salary is exactly what teams like Sigma.Int don't get and that is a major thing they always cite holding them back because they can't dedicate full time to dota (having to work a job or w/e).

You can't go into debt to play dota hoping to win the big prize pool, but you can play dota at a very low break even salary and hope to win slightly less big.

If you put it that way, I guess all of dota2 tournaments are partly community-funded. It's just about how we play words, in the accounting book at the end of the day, it looks the same. I don't feel like topic about policy goes anywhere.

About LCS, sure, you get paid 25k/team and it's a safenet, but only if you make it into LCS, and there're only 16 teams. A lot of other teams have to do the same way Dota2 teams do. Moreover, LCS teams are forbidden to play in any other tournaments besides Riot's one (which is kind of the same situation with last year Chinese Dota scene, which I think is stupid), so it's not like they have 25k and have the opportunity to get all the money in the world or something.

In LoL theres LCS teams and there's amateurs. Not really anything else.

Regardless, 25K per team per season is a lot of money that means a lot to players that isn't counted in "prize money" afaik.

Sure all dota 2 tournaments are somewhat community funded. How does that change what amount is Valve-funded?
