I'm actually happy that Valve doesn't have it in Dota2, I've seen enough supposedly impossible comebacks happen to not want it.

@FinestHour Well his fans don't like him based on his skill at the game, but on other things. Also, he's the first to admit he's not the greatest at the game so I'm not sure what the problem is here
Just don't watch his stream then, lol.

Like 80% of people that watch/follow Purge just do it for the entertainment of watching someone who's not great but tries desperately hard. It's a bit like watching someone play Surgeon Simulator or QWOP, you know they're going to fail but seeing how big and stupid it is. Helps that you have a massive chat devoted to pointing out his mistakes as well.

The fact that 1 14 year old can pay 75$ to drop an entire gaming network is pretty retarded but I guess that's for another thread. I think you'd have to extend that to more than "one of" given how that group did basically the same thing to Riot and Blizzard, IIRC.
Valve is not "one of", valve is "the".

DDoS is very easy to execute, and incredibly hard and expensive to protect against.
Its not impressive, its not 'hacking' even. Anyone can do it, thats the appeal and danger of it.

There's more than one way a DDoS can happen, some more difficult to secure yourself against than others.

Sigh, DDoS are so stupid. A LAN I was at not long ago got DDoS'd by american kiddies that got annoyed because their /Team Fortress 2/ team got knocked out the tournament. Meant no one at the lan (Which is not focussed on the tournament side of things anyway) could play any games that used a server that wasn't located at the lan.

here's what you're not getting
a DDoS against the EG house and a DDoS against the Steam Servers are so hilariously different they're ridiculous to compare

Ok here's what you're not getting a DDoS against the EG house and a DDoS against the Steam Servers are so hilariously different they're ridiculous to compare Steam Servers sure. EG house on the other hand is similar attack Zealos had where a single IP address can shut down a LAN environment which is the setup they have going at their house.
It's obnoxious for EG and has caused them big issues but some attacks on them were just simple cases of their Skype address being unveiled and attacking them that way.

Would allowing all orbs/attack modifiers to stack have any serious balance implications for dota 2? aside from breaking compatibility with wc3 (which has already been broken in, arguably, more significant ways).

why are you even arguing with me
I'm just saying that DDoS is incredibly hard for a company to protect itself from

Purge is good at the game. He's not pro level, and has never claimed to be, but he's still massively better than the vast majority of Dota 2 players. People who watch him learn a lot from him. Watching pro players when you're new is more detrimental than good because you never understand why they do what they do and you do not have the skills to copy them. Purge however, usually explains exactly why he does what he does, and he's not so bonkers amazing that he can't be copied.
His commentary is honestly the big deal, at least in my opinion. It's ridiculously hard to find people who commentate on their own play who aren't complete idiots or derps. The only other player I know who I can watch is Merlini, but he doesn't produce even close to the amount of content Purge does, and he often post games where he specifically say he's derping and it's only worth watching for entertainment.
