This right here I think is the biggest point of all that isn't being made. This isn't something that was argued for/against with a CBA. They pretty much were told that 'this is your new contract, sign it or be out of a job.' and that's what they have to do. Honestly though I don't know if they are able to get union representation or not so I won't pretend to go there. It's really unfortunate though that in reality Riot holds all the power and can do pretty much whatever they want with the only repercussions being some bad PR that will in all honesty probably go away as soon as the next 'big' thing happens.

What do teams actually do in LoL? Seems like they could be replaced by a manager or something.

Good Guy Riot - forcing players to make a union to further the growth of eSports.

i guess people want that big business money but none of the conditions You'd think that fact that even League fans and players are upset about it would make you realize that all industries aren't the same. It is quite frankly very different than the non-esport worlds equivalent because there's no streaming parallel. Video games have been like this for years, non compete clauses are standard. Sports too. Hockey players have been fired by their league for wearing the wrong brand of hat to games. On during the game, to the game. This is nothing new, you don't pay people money to have them turn around and stream other games for money. I don't know why you're quoting the person saying that drawing these parallels are pointless and then draw a parallel to prove a point. It's simply not interesting to the conversation that 'this is how x business works'. Well it isn't how every business works, and it isn't what fans and players in the eSports industry expect. As pointed out in those other industries the players/employees also have protection which players in eSports do not. They did something, people reacted negatively. Saying 'this is normal business stuff', doesn't mean it's okay or acceptable, it's irrelevant. Maybe I did it because I think you idea that we can't draw parallels is stupid and we can totally do that. The player in LCS work for Riot and just because a bunch folks on reddit are freaking out doesnt make the contract bad. Riot would be doing a disservice to their other employees by paying players to promote other games. Esports isn't magic land were everyone gets along. These companies are competing for our attention and wallets.

NotYango clearly is not Yango as the poster has made several key mistakes.
First of all TheYango almost always lacks an expressive tone within the his posts and prefers to keep distance from off topic arguments. TheYango is also very assertive and while NotYango is trying to mimic one of many defining characteristics, fails to do so in a similar mannerism.

So the real question is: did notyango kill Yango? Is notyango a pod person?

You don't have to get along, but to think that you won't be affected negatively by doing things which your employees and fans do not agree with is pretty naive.
We've heard plans like this from Riot before, and they always backpedal, because this is an incredibly fickle industry. And especially in the F2P market you need your customers to like you. It also makes people less likely to support your game or future games if they're from an opposing game.
So, no. I don't see how Riot really gains anything from this. The good will is worth more for a F2P game.

I think it is more that people will see a player playing hearthstone and spend their LoL money on hearthstone cards or sweet dota hats. No one will quit.

so an example would be for a poster that sincerely believes he's right about a certain skill or item build that is almost universally viewed upon as stupid and laughable. this is a tricky process however as theyango can easily distinguish between genuine posters being stubborn about how wrong they are and troll attempts.

Honestly, I enjoyed it as much when Esport was smaller and most players had a job on the side. When this was just about knowing who was the best at a game and having fun.
But heh.. money I guess. =o
