Allow people to queue only one server and you completely remove the issue without in any way preventing people playing with friends. The only people it "hurts" are those who get the same ping on different servers and want faster queues. However, it should in theory average out wait times just fine (less popular searches would take longer, admittedly, but the more popular ones would actually take less time), so I don't think that's a great reason. I don't see what problem that solves. Particularly if it's Russians people complain about, the Russian server is in Stockholm, which means they barely get better ping to the Russian server than to EU anyway. If you forced them to queue only one server, they'd queue the one that everyone else queues on because the ping wouldn't be that different and the queue times would be a lot faster. EDIT: In fact, that would end up focusing the server load on the few most popular servers while not making efficient use of the less popular regions, because rather than queuing for a couple different regions, people would queue only the nearest "big" region, since a lot of people are OK with slightly worse ping for a faster game.

Well yeah, Valve also needs to put some fucking servers in the most popular Dota country in the world. I don't see why Russians wouldn't queue either Russia or East Europe, both of which are absolutely applicable to the vast majority of them.

Wouldn't Europe East be shortest? I mean, judging by stream viewership of Russian/English commentary, Eastern Europe has got to have the majority of European players, no?

Those aren't the only people it hurts. It hurts people that like to play different regions like me queueing on EU with my buddies from US. My "region" would be SA but I don't like queuing on SA and his region would be "US" but I get too high ping to US to play nicely. Region locking is bad and people must grow a pair of testicles so they can stop blaming "Russians" for their own incompetence.

At least read my post before going off on some weird tangent in order to insult me. Nowhere did I suggest region locking.

Also don't imply that all russians are bad. If the russians you play with are bad, than it's because of your own mmr that you play with them. The obstacle is in your mind, not in the game. Also there is a mute button if they voice chat too much.

Also there is a mute button if they voice chat too much. People who play on multiple servers can easily have mismatched MMR compared to those who only play on one. For SC2, put high Masters Koreans vs. high Masters SEA players and there will be a big difference. Of course, that's an extreme, and I have no idea how close the different servers are on average, but you can't assume the "Russians suck" stereotype has no basis - they could easily have a higher overall MMR than they should for some servers. And, to be 100% clear, this doesn't show that the Russians people get matched up with actually are worse than the average player they meet at their MMR, it simply leaves open the possibility. It also theoretically leaves open the possibility that the Russians are actually better. Regardless, I don't mind playing with Russians too much. It's mildly irritating but certainly not a big deal. The issue with perception almost certainly comes from the fact that the annoying ones are far more conspicuous than the pleasant, highly skilled ones. However, I would still prefer to not get matched with them, so something that doesn't really hurt anyone seems fine to me. Still, the issue of centralising the playerbases on a smaller number of servers could indeed be an issue, I don't know.

The difference in mmr across servers you mentioned stems from segregation of servers(region locking). A possibility that will blow your minds: russians queueing on every server at once provide a global standard for mmr. Russians make sure mmr values are equal on all servers. I have no way to prove it, but it is not merely possible, it is likely.

Annoying as it is to have games full of people not speaking the same language its more annoying to be so restricted. Wouldn't like to see it in DOTA2. Anyway I play LoL on and off. Generally when I was to just play a game and mess about without too much stress (although my teammates frequently try their hardest to ensure some). My problem is each game isn't "self contained" the same way games like DOTA2 and Counter Strike and others are. By that I mean going into the game you don't have any inherent advantage or disadvantage besides your own capabilities. This isn't the case with LoL thanks to runes, masteries, summoner levels and the fact you have to unlock characters. I just feel its an inherently anti-competitive business model and design, which makes it hard to take the game seriously as an esport. Its a shame really because it can be fun to play and fun to watch. It kinda reminds me of TF2 in that respect. TF2 on launch was awesome and was for quite a while. But over time valve has just piled more and more and more garbage in there now that the whole thing is an absolute mess and its absurdly difficult to unlock all of the possible options to simply play the game properly. Actually getting every weapon so you have a "fair" playing field takes forever or a lot of money.

While you need to ask particularly to understand for good players. Russians are as good & bad as every nation, but bad ones make it pretty clear.
