Probably, yes. But it of course depends on how you calculate. Say Valve has an employee who - for 6 months - only works on TI. Is his salary part of the "TI cost" or do you say "Well, he's employed anyways, so it doesnt really matter". Or the merchandise. If the merchandise would've been made available only online, people would still have bought some of it. Do you attribute all of it to TI earnings, or just a percentage? If they make some of it available online after TI, does the cost of creating it count as TI cost or not? I'd guess with the compendium sales they're able to break even. If you consider that TI is basically just promotion for the game (so a loss is expected) etc it's definitely profitable for them so we will see one next year. | ||

I don't think they make a profit. Shop Items, Compendium Sales, Tickets, Toys/Merchandise. Valve earned quite a bit from these stuffs. I think they still make a loss. $1M for Prizepool,booking of the hall, hiring of casters and paying all the teams/caster flight ticket/hotels/food(these stuff cost a lot especially for those who travel),marketing/advertising through papers. But Valve is doing it for the publicity and wants to market their Dota 2 to the audience. The question arises how long Valve can do this? | ||
