People forget that heroes like Leshrac and Tidehunter were picked in even more games than Morphling was, and several heroes were banned more often. What made Morph stand out was that he was always the key hero of the composition and almost always dominated the game. It's not the amount of picks or bans. That's not the case with Weaver, she is still a carry, so she is still somewhat in the spotlight, but she is not nearly as dominant as Morph was and she doesn't always have the same role.

Agreed. Weaver isn't wrecking teams like Morph did...but he's just dull in my opinion.

I feel the same about carry Alchemist too actually. Dull to watch. He's an a-clicker of the most extreme type, worse even than Antimage or Void. I'm just not liking some of these pick tendencies going into this year's International.

Also, people need to remember that picks are in response to other picks. If people keep baning Batrider and wisp and then picking life stealer, you are going to see similar heroes in response unless the other team has something crazy(Navi). I didn't see a lot of PL or Antimage either, but I did see a crap ton of naga.

Alchemist is picked so much because he is a hardcarry that can also be run as a support. That means they can get him early in the draft and he can either role. Also, dat stun.

We need more level 1 solo-roch line ups in TI3. I want a level 5 ursa running around, dumbfounding players and being immortal.

I know. Doesn't mean I like it though. :-\

I like Naga being played more though, just a shame its not as a primary carry. >_> (<3 Naga)

Well the other thing is that Morph had seen months of first round ban/pick in Chinese DotA 1, so it wasn't just a TI2 thing, whereas Weaver just sort of jumped on people at TI3.

i think most carries are rather boring to watch, because all they do is farm up to a point and then deal massive amounts of damage while being unkillable at the same time. weaver isnt an exception to this.
however, weaver isnt as hard to kill as morphling and doesnt have such a big early to midgame impact as morph had while still doing nothing else than farm farm farm farm and not die regardless of how many heroes try to gank him.

More surprising than weaver to me is the OD/Razor picks coming out. Weaver was picking up steam in China leading up to this event and almost like every team had played him a few times whereas razor saw little play.

Kind of disagree with this point - he is one of the strongest 1v1ers against most traditional solo offlane / safe heroes, and is just really strong in midgame fights. Half of the time in these games, he's just in one lane split pushing, because he knows he can't be ganked (especially when linkens, and later BKB, are up).

If we're comparing morphling of TI2 then no way in hell does weaver have anywhere near the same impact in the midgame. Morphling does way more damage whereas I'll admit that weaver is a better solo. When shotgun morphling was getting godlike streaks like they were standard I don't remember any carry being as strong as it was. Also, you could probably not offensive tri against that morphling either. The burst dmg would be too much after a while.

Also, weaver is very killable pre linkens. A good morphling will have replicate up if he's split pushing anyway.

To be honest, the LITERAL comparison between the two is a bit stupid.

The picking priority / success of the hero is more logical.

Did morphling get severely nerfed since then? Or did teams just learn how to play against it? I haven't seen morphling picked more than 1-2 times since I started watching dota.
