It's not like we're talking about UFC counter-programming strikeforce a couple of years ago. Because those are PPV and TV events, you're not going to watch 2, there's like no down-time.I'm still trying to understand what went through the heads of the people who picked the date... I don't see any benefit at all. Like even the argument to stop people from getting into dota 2 doesn't make any sense. This is literally the dumbest organiser decision of 2013. Unless sc2 has some deal with riot I really don't see a reason. God damn.. I'm really mad about this. I still enjoy watching sc 2 tournaments but TI3 is gonna be exhausting enough so I wont manage to cram in another 48 hours of sc2 That weekend, during down-time people will check out other games. Which I don't think helps SC2 all that much at this time because the game is old enough to the point where the general eSports audience have probably decided if they are going to watch it or not. As I said in the other thread. I think this comes down to a lack of options for Blizzard. They decided to run all 3 events at the same time. They decided this far too late (why is it being announced now? This is a major weekend, this should be like 3 months in advance). They have to deal with 3 partners. They have a short time-span to do it in before the next events. It's incompetence more than it is vindictive counter-programming. On July 23 2013 06:32 Soap wrote: We're the hardcore. Dunno why they would have any downtime this time.

Teams that you aren't interested in might be playing.Last years TI had like only 30 minute "downtime" before the final and even that downtime was filled with content. Dunno why they would have any downtime this time. This is more about the general viewing audience. If you look at stream numbers they drop in-between games even if there is filler content.

Gosh, why blizzard. The story between Blizzard and Dota has to be one of the saddest stories ever.. On the other hand at least valve is doing it now. Rip the blizzard I knew from w2.

Blizzard is just being greedy with the scheduling decision. While Valve on the other hand uses TI3 as a marketing tool for Dota 2 and the teams. Blizzard honestly won't be able to compete with something that is there to advertise Dota 2. Plus TI3 will get more media attention considering how well we did with buying compendiums to raise the prize pool. I still catch SC2 tournaments now and then when there are no Dota tournaments going on. But this year I'm going to be live at TI3 so Blizzard easily loses those people that are fans of both games that happen to be at the event. Well don't forget that TI3 will have alot larger viewer numbers considering how much we've grown in concurrent players. Adding in the number of different languages that TI3 will be broadcasted in and the release in China and Korea its just a lot more regions that will bring in the good numbers.

They can't run to much later into August, since they have 12 weeks to Blizzcon and they still have another season. Proleague finals are on August 1-2. The World of Tanks finals are on the 18-20 and the NASL team runs that event too, which means they can't run NA. There is no room in August for them execpt for the weekend of TI3. It has nothing to do with greed, it has to do with there being no room.

If they planned this as 3 separate events, then the timing wouldn't be a problem. You can have one event overlap with TI, like the KR one. And it wouldn't even be running at the same time. As I already said, I think that they decided to run them at the same time and then they had no other options but this weekend. The real problem either way, is running them at the same time with 3 partners makes it impossible to organize.

Well they basically knew when TI3 was being hosted and could have planned it out better but obviously its Blizzard and their planning is terrible. A lot of SC2 teams are probably pissed about it as their sponsors will get really low ROI considering how the viewership numbers will be. Even looking at last season the numbers were low. This season will probably be even lower because of the number of cross over fans. Blizzard has lots of time and didn't take advantage of it. All it is with them is rush rush rush. So GL Blizzard a lot of sponsors will be very unhappy with you in 2 weeks.

I don't think it is possible. There are two events the weekend before on August 1-2 and World of Tanks conflicts with the NA production crew. That and LCS is wrapping up that week as well, so their ELS crew will be getting ready for that. There is more going on than just Dota 2 and SC2. A lot of people are running event in August.

Instead they got an entire comunnity, including personalities with tens of thousands of viewers on Twitter, to talk about it who otherwise wouldn't. The world's media will have their attention already turned to gaming, so it's easy to get a footnote where you would have nothing. I think it is a very smart move.

The fact that we didn't know these dates until now proves that they waited far too long. NINJEDIT: Also, I'm pretty stoked on sc2 going underground again. My guess is it will increase the overall awesome by continuing to pull in the hyperfans. We'll win in the end after all these FOTM games pass on by with their sequels, and we're still watching sc2 in 2023 waiting for sc3 to come out. NINJEDIT#2: j/k, sc3 is never coming out.

TB is already a staple on the SC2 scene and his channel is mostly about cheap indie games, also his opinion about Blizzard hardly matters about StarCraft, thus his additional PR value is minimal. I meant guys like Tobi or Cyborgmatt. Consider that if every single SC2 owner would tune into the streams, it would give amazing numbers but not a single cent to Blizzard. Reaching towards other genres or mass media is what matters.
