Nothing big, but just some minor tweaks. I'm thinking of an option like there's in sc2, in which the casters are able to "remove" the UI, so spectators can see the whole fight happening. In addition to that, something I've seen in HoN streams is they have the option to zoom out even further than the regular zoom, so you can even see more of hugescale and spread out fights. Especially in comparison to HoN and LoL I find their UIs overall more informative. We also have things like gold/exp difference, gpm, cs, k/d/a, gpm, current gold, names of players, ulti CD/enough mana [that green dot at the bottom of each hero portrait line up at the top of the screen] and some more, but usually you can only see two or maybe three of those things. Casters can't permanently switch between all that with just the one little window on the top left. Some info also only gets to the viewers when casters select the specific player in order to see more detailed info about him. I know ingame tickets are a big role in this as well, because if I want to know certain things I could check those myself. I feel the UI is somewhat stacked for spectating and needs improvement, tho I don't have problems with the UI when playing. Despite the multi unit control, which is imo quite horrendous. Please note that I'm not saying something along the lines "volvo disband Dota2 UI, HoN/LoL superior MOBA" For reference the spectator UIs of said games. + Show Spoiler +
You can already zoom out more than default, at least under dotatv, dunno how it is ingame

It's possible to develop features that remedy the fact that normal queue is probably negatively affected by the existence of a ranked queue, but it's not so easy to just say "just implement ranked, nobody has to play it" because even the people who choose not to play ranked will have their gameplay experience fundamentally affected by having one in the game unless you design the system properly.

Except right now the perception of the non-ranked mode is already absolute shit. You try to tell anyone you even REMOTELY take matchmaking seriously, you'll get one of two responses:
* Go make a team and do team MM you faggot
* Stop taking it so seriously its just matchmaking.
The perception of the current MM system is already as shit as it would be if there was ranked and non-ranked, and at least then, the people that would want to play ranked could.
Right now they're just met with two completely ignorant responses, all for the sake of protecting people's egos.

I think it's pretty terrible when it comes to team-based games. Why would you want to look for a good team to regularly play with when you have an entire league to climb before you stopped getting flamed by people a league above you? Majority of competitive games? bw/sc2/wc3/hon/lol/halo/guild wars/wow Believe it or not, but in the history of the Internet there have been a lot more than eight competitive games. There have been hundreds of competitive games. Most of the popular ones were FPS and these used a public server and clan-based system. This actually gave people an opportunity to develop friendships and play with the same people every week. IMO this is infinitely superior to getting matched with 4 people on the ladder that you're not likely to talk to again (even if you add them to friends list).

But that's exactly the point, isn't it? There isn't anywhere to go except the forums because all the incentive is to work on your league ranking. You get the forums and there isn't any infrastructure besides that except Twitch chat full of 13-year-olds spamming an ASCII penis. (The in-game chat client is always lonlier than space, and I'm not even going to mention the ghost town of IRC...)

I feel making the (hypothetical) ranked system only CM would help a lot in that regard.
Not that other modes ranked make any sense though. (Ranked All Pick ? What a joke)

BTW people for some reason in pubs love to play ring around the warlock golem. i don't get it. its not a fight you can win, stop it lol. I think the idea is to try and kite the golem while everyone else focuses it down. It never happens though. specifically i was playing solo mid warlock vs a nyx. i get ganked by a naix who is set up by impale. why did i get a double kill there you ask? because i ran in circles around my warlock golem while naix chased me and got killed, while bonds finished off the nyx.
i dont get it. why did that work.

Not that other modes ranked make any sense though. (Ranked All Pick ? What a joke) CM actually makes less sense than all-pick because drafting is totally meaningless in a mid-level game where you have 4 random players and nobody has any idea who plays what.
All-pick restricted to the -CM hero pool is is the most sensible (or, even better, -XL or -LM if they get implemented) because as much as people like to bitch about "OP" heroes, none of the ones in -CM are game-breaking enough at the pub level to matter (obviously there's stuff like Phoenix and Arc Warden when we get the full release, but that's a completely different monster).

This game so needs a surrender option. So much time wasted.

The issue with AP is that picking faster matters. Even if you don't believe a single hero is that OP, a full stack insta-picking an OP comp definatelly matters. You won't be always queuing alone. Adding visible MMR to the solo queue wouldn't be that big of a deal, but people hardly play solo queue anyway. Most people want visible ranks in regular matchmaking, and I don't see how regular matchmaking could be competitive with AP.
Perhaps it would need to be something similar to -CM, but without a captain and maybe even without bans. Isn't that how the other games do it?

hey guys, whats up with matchmaking? It totally sucks

If you want to make a ranked all pick mode just make it have the same drafting style as CM but without bans (hon had an option for this, I used it a lot for inhouses). It starts a lot faster than CM since the ban phases are skipped even if time isn't shortened for picks (which probably should be). So one player picks a hero, other player picks a hero, etc. Basically like RD but with the full hero pool instead of a limited draft. Do that with only CM heroes and it's probably better than most other options for mid level games.

for me it's sniper. having sniper as a teammate is such a pain. he is so item dependent and pretty much useless early game. he's easy to gank and you cant even leave him alone. he constantly needs baby sitting. the worst ones are the players that pick sniper even though spiritbreaker was picked. sniper sucks. Brood is by far the worst hero to play with by concept, for me. Any hero that forces you to 4v5 for long periods of time is bad in pubs, and Broods often end up ganked far more often without any punishment since the other 4 players don't put the same kind of pressure as in a pro game. There is always the terrible random meepo, etc., but assuming the hero is being played decently, I just hate brood.
i agree on brood although i really like the hero but...
its the only hero in the pool with no early killing power, no real lategame and no out of nowhere pushing power. she also needs a solo lane to do anything.in the midgame and if the brood is bad, she just feeds 20 spiderlings to gyro every 4 minutes or so.
second is enchantress. not because the hero is bad, but because most of the times i see someone playing enchantress its the midas 20 minutes in the jungle enchantress.
