Well, not everyone wants a public mmr just to brag about how good they are. I just like the competitiveness about it, and the fact I could set a goal and hopefully achieve it. With that being said I understand the problems it would bring and I'm fine with or without it.

I have a theory as to why they keep MMR hidden. I think that they plan to use stats from a match other than win/loss to gauge a player's skill, such as kills, deaths, assists, the timing of these, gpm, exp, etc. But if they made MMR public, then people could tell what caused changes in their MMR and abuse those, and take advantage of them to manipulate their MMR. So at the end of the day, they could make better matchmaking than anyone else, and the only way they can do that is by having a hidden rating.
It's just a thought I had, I have no evidence that they are, or will be doing this. But it would be cool if they did.

merlini timbersaw is no rtz timbersaw thats for sure

My personal solution would but to give people a general feeling of their skill level without actually telling them the number used for MM. Basically, SC2's system....
It gives you goals, lets you brag to others, but hopefully doesn't allow you to nitpick the players you're with.

It'd still be nice to know what "league" you are in (more finely than normal, high, very high), without needing to know my exact MMR so I can tell random people I'm better than them. There should be some league to have a small metric of where you are at.

This ranking talk is repetitive and boring.

Not surprising, as im used to a full gaming rig.

Valve has been open towards why they believe making MMR public is a bad idea. Back when the beta had a few thousand participants, there was a console command that revealed your MMR but was immediately removed once it was starting to grow widespread.
There's a MMR system in the game people, there has always been one.

That's what I clearly don't understand from everyone else from the other side. All your arguments are basically based around anecdotes and opinions. That is pretty must everyone's argument on the subject. We don't have a lot of "facts" to back up any of our claims. All of our arguments start with "Well I think that this would happen". Asking for options does not = claiming that things are going to be bastardized because of a 'ranked' que. League's casual/normal modes work out just fine. I love the backhanded insults from everyone, ranging from you, Plansix, and PrincessXizor. Mind you i have no problem whatsoever to have a visible stats, and you dont need me to remind you that everyone was against you (and a few of you who supported that visible mmr). People are simply too lazy to response on this mmr matter nowadays. and for league i have 0 experience, thats why i dont wanna go near there (discussing that 'casual' game seems pointless imo). While you know how exactly hon's casual mode failed. There are plenty of people here who like visible stats/rankings/ladder play. It's just that the most vocal are those who want to get their hands held because someone said something mean over the internet. It's funny that you call League a casual game when pretty much everyone argues against having a ranking system is exactly that, a casual gamer. TL;DR The only argument against visible stats that I have seen so far is "I don't want someone to be mean to me over the internet" when that happens regardless of visible stats or not.
There's already a rating for the only actually competitive mode in the game aka pre-arranged 5-man captains mode
Everything else is casual by definition and adding visible ratings would lead to the growth of what I see as a cancer in any competitive game, aka people who are overly obsessed with ratings and blaming other factors for their rating instead of playing the game and actually trying to get better. edit: look at the post below for an example

ok, either the matchmaking is still not fixed, or my MMR dipped to a new low record.... getting matched with 15 wins and 44 wins on my main account, Volvo my ass :-/. Look up to next week hearing they apologise(AGAIN).
