Is the "limited heroes" mode adapted to people like me, or would I be better off unticking it and going with the flow (since I've read here and there that players and Valve alike tend to direct players to boring-yet-effective picks rather than just simple stuff)? the point of the limited hero pool I gather is to prevent new players from getting facerolled by things they dont understand. IE avoiding the "burden of knowledge" problem for new players. Personally, I would advise you to just dive into regular games to start getting a feel for all of the heroes, but if you think youd have more fun not having to worry about that stuff then limited hero pool might be nice for a few games. I get the impression that limited hero pool is for people who are unfamiliar with the genre though, and I know that you are not exactly that from reading lol gd .

Having played with someone completely new to the genre, the limited hero pool is more beneficial to them due to not having so much choice, he spent like 4 minutes just staring at the heroes the first time we played a normal AP

I don't know what Valve is doing with their servers -_- "Searching for the dota 2 network"! "Restoring connection to the dota 2 network"!
It's basically unplayable because someone in the team is constantly disconnected from the dota 2 network. What the hell is going on?

Restart steam, if it doesn't work , it's the summer sales fault, wouldn't be surprised if they were redirecting the servers from dota to serve the store around the time new deals hit

There's no hesitation when you just mash that "random" button as soon as you get into pick phase.
And the first game I ended up as Spirit Breaker against Drow Ranger+Crystal Maiden radiant bot, which felt pretty weird since farming wasn't easy as melee against 2 ranged and I kinda wanted to try and gank since his kit seems designed for it, but I was alone so we instead killed them when an ally came to gank. Then I ganked mid anyway, wanted to gank top, and was left alone again laning against Sniper. The combination of his 40% ministuns, range, and turn speed made me feel the butt of the joke anytime I tried to run to the tower away from his harass (till he showed me the hard way he's got more range than her anyway). Then he got Lothar's Edge, some blade with 20% crit and a divine rapier by 25 minutes and I just waited for it to end.
Next game I random'd Tiny and we ended up 3v5 with our Undying mid killing Doom over and over and over, and another guy who ragequit'd once 0-12. The Vengeful obviously had previous experience of the game too and directed me, and we ended up just pushing mid while 2 of them randomly died to our turrets while pushing. Ended with 47-4, Undying 24-1-7 and me tanking turrets like no other (looks like if I auto a creep in turret range I'll take aggro).
Since I've heard that DotA 2's matchmaking is actually pretty good, I take it that this huge discrepancy is mainly because these were my 3rd-4th games, and it'll take awhile to settle my MMR until I get less stompy matches?

Also when you're playing your first few games, the winner is often decided by whoever has more/better smurfs and usually end in one sided stomps. The MM system likes to match you with people close in total number of games, so once you play a few more it will be less of a problem.

to your point, the early games are always completely awful for everyone, because thats when you are playing with the people who pick up the game for a few hours and then quit forever when they get frustrated.

Embeds sometimes tell me that the stream isn't allowed to be embedded.
Started like 1-2 weeks ago. Another week, and twitch gets a little bit shittier.

I haven't had a leaver in a game in a few hundred matches. and i'd say less than 5% of my games are that stompy. i mean like in all games of the genre eventually shit hits the point where things get much more difficult to come back from than you may have the ability for, but its actually not that bad.
if you want to learn or have someone to talk to about the game as you play /after you play. Add me on steam: halfwingseen

Yeah I've started just always viewing Twitch from VLC.
It doesn't stop the lag when it's bad. But Twitch just started having so many hick-ups for me in the past 2 weeks on the site itself. Like the page would load but the video wouldn't load (at all). Or yeah the embed says it's not allowed to embed.

Has anyone ever tried Skele King + Ursa, fury swipes & vamp aura lvl 1 roshan?

I wasn't in limited heros, hence the "didn't matter since I knew all those I faced", and I expected the games to be stomp (noobs are pretty easy to snowball off of), just not that big. Are smurfs seen that often in DotA? I'd have thought that people are less likely to hold several steam accounts since most games aren't free and you'd rather have them all on a single account, so even though DotA itself s free not many people would create another steam account just to smurf on it

Later on, I personally never had an issue with it.
