So.. I've never played Dota1. How is Abbadon generally played / laned? I've just played a botmatch and I feel like he might be a new favourite pubstomper...

If LoL players are, any esports game can use the same ruling. You don't have to go through the same process for every single game. Once one is in, all are in, they can use the LoL thing as precedent.

Even though the precedent is set, I doubt it would be that easy. You'd still have to set up the guidelines for foreigners to be considered actual professional athletes, and someone would have to do it. Of course, I'd like to understand how exactly the US gvt recognized LoL professional athletes but the gamespot article doesn't really give a lot of info.

I'm mixed concerning Abbadon, he was one of my favorite heroes in dota 1 but it was the same thing with bb and I was disappointed because I improved a lot (and the opponents too) and those trololol chases were not as poweful as in bnets pubs.

Because the US government isn't in the business of recognizing people as athletes or not.

What they have done is recognize LCS as a business like that of sports leagues. Which isn't something that can be argued, that's just what it is. And they get the same benefits in terms of getting visa's for those who they contract (the players).

Read my previous post, this means extremely little for the rest of the scene as there aren't other leagues like LCS in the US. It is simply something that sounds like a big deal, but in reality does very, very, little apart from those running leagues like LCS (or previously CGS).

On low level pubs, you play him as offlane and harass the shit out of your opponents with aphotic shield.
As skill levels go up, you generally want to have him protecting your carry, either in a defensive trilane or defensive duolane, or even defensive duo-offlane.

He CAN solo offlane as well, similar to omniknight. You just gotta be kinda careful.

Skill build is 2-3-2-1-2 or 2-1-2-1-2 depending on situation. Getting the 3rd skill early is cool when you are harassing your opponents or when the debuff seems to be better than the nuke to net a kill

He can be played as a kind of ganker(3rd skill does wonders there) or as a pure 4/5 position support. Later on you want to build up auras(mekansm, vlads, etc). Don't underestimate your ultimate, especially as far as tower diving is concerned. When tower diving, make sure to aggro the tower to yourself and aphotic shield yourself in order to protect your allies and damage your enemies.

Hey, thanks for that! I was just wondering if he could actually carry, but I guess I was overestimating his skillset.

Remember LCS players are employees of Riot. It's a different situation to just being a "professional gamer" since no other game to my knowledge has direct employment.

Sorry, this wasn't obvious to me from the gamespot article posted in General, as it makes no reference to the US gvt recognizing LCS (well, no reference to LCS at all except at the very end). I figured the US recognized athletes because it would want to prevent abuses when giving out visas.

Seems quite misleading from gamespot now that I think about it

oh he can semi-carry pretty damn well. Don't underestimate borrowed time and the ias/ms buff. Going for stuff like sny/ac is excellent on him; hell even a Heart. The issue with carrybaddon is that he has no methods of flash farming(aphotic shield is decent but not great) and his only "steroids" are either avoidable(borrowed time) or too weak(Curse of Avernus) to warrant a spot in the high carry tiers. Besides, both his first and second skill scream for a non-carry buildup since they are kinda mana intensive and help your allies WAAAY more than yourself.

He can sort-of carry, but his ability to support is outclasses his ability to carry by far

He might see some play. Not one of the first pick first ban tier, but he is the only hero in the game that can remove a stun. The next best thing to that is disrupting a stunned hero with shadow demon.
