I'll make a provocative statement: If they dont make the turn animations faster (better: remove them) and smoothen cast animations and attack animations significately, DotA 2 will never feel as good as LoL or HoN while playing. They should take the chance and change this and balance accordingly (will be huge balance issues but they should do it anyway). I will never have as much fun as I could have had with Dota 2 .

For you its "clumsy and delayed" for me it's a part of DotA which I couldn't play without. I'd rather even say that the 0 latency in movements/actions makes things easier and more casual which I personally dislike.

they are not clumsy, but they are delayed, for a very good reason
its integral to the balance of the game as it currently exists. It would be nearly impossible to adjust them unilaterally without COMPLETELY changing/removing some heroes, which almost no one wants :p

Perhaps its just because I'm used to 200+ ping, or because I played some wc3 customs back in the day, but I don't notice turn animations at all, even when I first started playing (except vs bat).

Even if they somehow managed to mantain the status quo of balance, it takes away the main mechanic of winning lanes in 1v1 situations.

But I'm sure I would notice if they were gone -.-
The only barrier to truth is the presumption that you already have it. It's through our pane (pain) we window (win though).

As someone who came from LoL I felt turn animations really bad, they got me killed multiple times until i figured out that you cant kite as insanely easily in dota as you can in LoL.

Yeah I'm aware of those (good) arguments, that is why I said they should take the chance to do those needed balance changes. I think Dota is in game design and hero design superior to LoL, but as I said, for ME (and I'm sure many others who are not diehard Dota fans) LoL (and HoN btw.) feel much more "modern" while playing.

Experienced Dota players like the game the way it is, and icefrog caters to them more or less exclusively, so dont expect anything to change soon, or ever.
I actually really like the "Clunkyness" because it adds to the difficulty and "skill cap," its just a matter of preference/opinion.

Dota fans are blessed to get a rehaul of their favorite game.
Our brothers from bw tasted the great sorrow that's called sc2.
Same with 1.6 and css.

It's clear that we want dota as we have come to know it. We don't want no new mechanics or new turn animations or anything else. Just old, plain, perfect dota.

Above post is the truth.
DotA1 was perfect to us.
Changing it would be a crime in most of our eyes, we have a good game with a settled balance.
DotA2 is going to be as much of an exact port as possible.

DotA1 players generally don't want the mechanics of DotA to change, and seeing that there is 25 million or so DotA1 players, there's a bigger player-base in it for valve by porting it as much as they can
They'll never get the chinese scene if they change too much either.

If you removed the delays right now, the game would be unplayable for me for weeks. I'd have to adjust everything i do when playing a hero.

Also, turnrates is only realistic as well, how can someone spin 180 degrees instantly? You have to turn around, obviously. But that's just a minor detail that i enjoy myself.
+No turnrate makes me bat-rider a sad hero.
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

you keep whining about this, just stop. if it's killing the fun for you, don't play. the legions of dota fans in china (and us current players) won't give a shit that the game doesn't feel "modern" or whatever you want to call it.

You should just play HoN/LoL if you want perfect animations, hell, there is a hero based around turn animations, ever seen an earthshaker cast Fissure while having stacks of napalm on him?

The animations are a huge part of the heroes...

What if Drow and Clinkz had the same animation as Mirana? Lina had the same animation as Mirana? The balance would change drastically.

(Mirana as an example of a hero thats animation is close to HoN/LoL)

(I could live without turning animations though)

I'm completely serious here, ok?

Why don't you just play HoN?

I like DotA and I'm going to keep playing it, and I like turn animations. Instead of suggesting DotA change some of its key systems, why don't you go to the HoN forum and suggest simple balance patches? That makes a lot more sense, doesn't it?
