Courier respawned, sent the bottle finally up at level 6 and it gets camped again. The invoker had a butt-buddy Lion who waited for a roughly 3 minutes in total of the early game just to kill the courier because I was wrecking this invoker. Is this a try-hard? Trading 0 xp on a support for ~2 tower kills (moneywise). Underused strategy on skilllevels that allow this to happen. Definitely worth it. Wouldn't call that tryhard. Just smart. Also might make the enemy team rage and win the game just by that. Let's start at some random mmr. Player: I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm just trying to understand stuff, playing the game with a plan is tryharding. Player: I only play DotA while watching tv shows/anime/streams, paying attention to the game is tryharding. Player: I only random Heroes, picking a hero is tryharding Player: I only pick the Heroes I enjoy, picking good heroes is tryharding Player: I only play by myself, stacking is tryharding Player: I only play with casual friends, playing with people who are trying to win is tryharding Player: I only stack with people who pick/random normal heroes, people who pick lineups is tryharding Player: I only pick -cm viable lineups, but people who trilane and ward properly every game is tryharding Player: I only ward and stuff, pooling and smokeganks is tryharding Chinese Player: Isn't that how ur supposed to play the game? At any level, you're perceived as a tryhard because its simply a way to say "yeah I'm better but i'm not giving it my all so even if I lose its not because I'm bad"

A pitcher who walks someone in sandlot baseball is tryhard. Crosschecking in street hockey is tryhard. Taking a dive when playing soccer with friends is tryhard. You're a tryhard if you think winning is absolutely everything in an environment where a win means absolutely nothing.

Valve will be happy, there's a whole bunch of heroes they can just remove from the game.

I was hoping someone would call him out on those terrible definitions. You can "tryhard" in any game, it doesn't mean you're better. And it damn sure doesn't mean the person who lost is butthurt. It means you're putting everything else aside just to win that game. If you're not having fun but winning because of the tactics you're employing then you're being a tryhard. Picking things like wisp/ck or kotl/pl are most definitely tryhard 90% of the time. You can tell by how bad it's usually used.

I don't get how anyone can say wanting to win (by for example playing the same powerful hero over and over again) is somehow more pitiful than wanting to improve. Each of us have our own motives for playing this, and if that particular player wants to pick nyx 100 times in a row he is free to do so. I don't think anyone here is the authority on how pubs "should" be played. The problem isn't what the one player does, it's what he wants his 4 team mates to do as well. Come to think of it, that would definitely explain why so many people get muted and then QQ about it on this forum.

But the fact is, the amount you personally try can be viewed as tryharding by other people for whom winning matters even less. As I outlined in the previous post, there is a point where you'd draw the line and call people who play the game a certain way "tryhards" while you yourself fall beyond that point for many others. Simply put, if you're trying to win at all, you're more "tryhard" than a guy who cares nothing about winning or losing.

For me tryharding is basically picking a lineup that shouldn't be appearing in a true CM games, where one team has all the top-tier heroes and just wreck face. It basically means you just want to win at any cost, instead of having fun. Maybe it is fun for them to be owning and wrecking games easily, but it's definitely not fun on the recieving end for the other team. Imagine trying to face a wombo combo lineup of say, Darkseer Magnus, with good carries like Luna/Antimage/Gyro/Phantom lancer and a stunner support, say maybe a Rubick/Nyx/Bane. That lineup is nearly impossible to beat with a uncoordinated random bunch of pubbies. Another example is a full stun/slow team. Oh man those teams are just no fun to be playing against when your team is uncoordinated enough to survive the early-midgame onslaught. Oh and trilanes are tryhard in pub games dual lanes ftw. a trilane is always used in pro games for a reason over dual lanes, because its much more effective then dual lanes...usually. Personally I dont use the word tryhard as a insult. I just shake my head and do my best in the game. If i do win those extremely powerful lineups, its actually a sense of achievement/accomplishment that we've beaten those people at their game on their terms.

Chuan_ig: try so hard Broadcaster Chuan_ig: bat naix na Dont hear people call 'tryharding' that often nowadays compared to a few months back, nowadays there is almost always one good support in each team. 'Tryharding' to me would be people going full competitive line up when they see the other team randomed most of their heroes, like, jesus, i guess if some people wanted that win so badly they can take that but game usually end up bitter - either game was stomped before 20mins or game lasted for 50mins because the opponents are so bad that they couldn't finish the game with advantage even with competitive heroes. It is indeed very frustrating at times when some team tryharding against the other 'laid back' team but there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone wants to win. The best thing is obviously both teams tryharding to each other. Hopefully the solo mm helps the situation.

However they spent time to fix Slark dark pact instead :-/ the soft ban in Dota and in the case of Super SF 2:CE Akuma (iirc) are different. SSF2:CE Akuma is just broken and unlike Dota, there's no way to quickly fix it, that's way the soft ban was introduced. while the case of Armlet on bear, it get soft banned due to Dota1 parity ken so it's not the same kind of thing. a more apt analogy is Chen's controlling Roshan a few patch ago.
